Q:Are there variable speeds available in between the presets? If not, does anyone know of a fan control that will?

Answer This Question
A:Â This control has 4 positions only: Off, Low, Medium, and High. It works well if you don't need a variable speed controller.

A:Â No, there are not any variable speeds in between the 3 speeds. We do have a variable speed fan control, model number SFS-5E-color, however it is mainly used for exhaust fans. A variable speed fan control is not recommended for a ceiling paddle fan, as it makes the fan motor noisy.

Answer This Question
A:Â Thank you for contacting Lutron Support! The SFSQ-FH is designed to control a standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only utilizes pull-chains to adjust its speeds. A fan that includes its own remote or wall control typically uses a proprietary control technology and would likely be incompatible with a third-party fan speed control. As always, Lutron would suggest reaching out to your fan manufacturer to verify if this control would be compatible with their fan.
by|Nov 18, 2020
A:Â It should. Set the fan at the highest speed via the pull-chain switch, and then adjust the desired final fan speed via the switch.

A:Â Lutron recommends setting the fan to the highest setting before installing the SFSQ-F, which will then use its own set of capacitors for speed. For more information on installing please visit https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/033206.pdf

The fan in my master bedroom is mounted high over my bed. It is too high to reach the pull chains to control the fan's speed. This fan speed control works great!

Easy and it works!
I was replacing an existing 3-speed control that was not mounted to a box, just held in place by the drywall. So I installed a wall box, the wiring was easy to follow. Easy job, great results.

This is a simple, effective fan switch. You can't use a light dimmer to control a fan. Not a particularly high end look or function but gets the job done for a reasonable price. Wiring is aluminum, not copper so you can assume the other components are not high end either.
