They do not lineup and fit flush
I purchased 4 of these kits as well as the concrete tops to wrap three 6X6 posts on my patio. I ordered the extra kit to get more height on the column wrap because I felt that 25" was too low, and it would've been. The items arrived on time and in good condition with no damage done during packing or shipping. The instructions were limited, but easy to follow and I began the project by wrapping the posts in the #30 felt paper as directed. I started by securing the starter strips, which were provided in each kit. I was unaware that the starter strips came with the kits because it does not say that anywhere in the description. I ended up ordering starter strips and will now have to return them. As I started wrapping each post, I learned quickly that i needed to use shims on the post to keep the pieces square because there was a gap left between the bracket and the post. A warning that using shims like I did will result in the concrete wrap being slightly offset on the post when the project is complete. I did not realize this until the end of the first column, and had used the construction adhesive already to hold the pieces together. In the end, I pushed on and the project is complete, but I am far from satisfied. The concrete wrap pieces seem to be designed to wrap a true 6" X 6" post, not a store bought 6x6 which has nominal dimensions of 5-1/2" x 5-1/2". If the instructions or description would've said that a post needed a 1/4 inch wrap, I could've done so and avoided tons of headaches. In addition to that problem, the wraparound concrete cap that is sold separately would not sit flush on top of the final row due to the large mound that is the base for the next layer. I had to use a chisel and hammer to flatten it out before putting on the concrete cap. And even after doing that, the two piece cap did not want to fit flush at the 45 degree angles. I chose this product to try to make this project easier to complete and made the purchase despite the lack of reviews (against my better judgement). When its all said and done, I made a $700 mistake that I'm going to have to live with. I would not recommend this product to anyone, especially DIYers.
