Product Overview

MACMAT-AR Asphalt Driveway Re-Surfacer is much more than a seal coat. Technically it is a Type II Micro-surface, a high solids polymerized liquid asphalt re-surfacer. MACMAT-AR is the result of new technologies as well as advanced polymer modifications producing an economical cutting edge micro pavement surface treatment. MACMAT-AR is designed to encapsulate the pavement and prevent water intrusion. MACMAT-AR incorporates specially graded aggregate to achieve a tough, highly durable and slip resistant surface. This results in reduced maintenance and a safer pavement surface. It provides superior wet pavement friction, better traction in freezing conditions and due the deep rich black color aids in melting snow and ice. While seal-coat is typically installed at a rate of 1 lb. per sq. yd., MACMAT-AR is installed at a rate of 11-18 lbs. per sq. yd. Helpful Tips: MACMAT-AR should only be applied when temperatures are at least 60 degrees and rising for a 24-hour period after application. Make sure to remove all loose debris from surface before installation. Do not install when rain is imminent. High humidity levels can increase dry times. MACMAT-AR dries in 2-4 hours but it is always recommended to keep vehicle traffic off for 24-hours.

MACMAT has improved friction capability. TMAT does not. TMAT is a more capable sealer than sealer. MACMAT is the same thing but with added grip, maybe for hilly driveways, etc.

Will this stick to cement?

Ill-advised, no. It is safe to pave with actual asphalt over concrete however be certain the concrete is fully repaired with cement prior to laying asphalt. That would be laying a new driveway over a preexisting driveway. Filler is used for holes, crack repair for cracks, and RESURFACER for areas with a lost seal for whatever reason (alligator cracking that cannot be dug and filled.) These are only repair products and require a very clean prepared surface. Sealer must be applied for any of these to have a long lasting life. It sounds like you need driveway repair or asphalt laid.

How long will this last? 1, 2 3 years? I don't see any info on this or guarantees.

is this oil base or water base ?

Answer

MACMAT-AR is an high solids asphalt based resurfacer which is unlike and not to be confused with a standard coal tar or asphalt sealant or paint like product. MACMAT-AR should be installed using a squeegee or like tool. Tools for installation and mixing may be cleaned using water as long as the material is still flowable otherwise they will need to be chiseled clean of hardened material.

NOT RECOMMENDED
This product may work well for anyone who has a completely level driveway. The product will crack as it dries in even the most insignificant dips. I never had water puddle in my driveway, nor did I have any potholes. I am sure to have plenty of potholes now and many more problems than I had before since this product cracked up as it dried over a 24 hour period. I now have rainwater trapped under the cracked product which will no doubt create a bad situation over time. I spent the extra $ on this thinking it was better quality. In the end, we ran out due to UPS delivering a leaking pail which immediately ran all over my grass and concrete sidewalk. We wound up finishing with Latex-ite airport grade which has dried well, filled cracks and looks much better, at a cheaper price. The Macmat product did fill cracks on level areas but left just as many new ones. Very, very disappointed.

The resurfacer has pea gravel added to it which makes application by squeegee more difficult. I was expecting a smaller rock which could be evenly distributed. The product otherwise met my expectation.
