Questions & Answers

Can this unit be used with a 100lb propane tank?

Asked by: Mpg2019
Hello, The NG unit means Natural gas. They will not be able to be used due to the gas burning differently. propane is a heavier gas while natural gas is lighter. For more details, please contact Marey's Customer Support at Toll-Free Phone Support - USA: +1 (855) 627-3955 or through email: customerservice@marey.com

Can this heater be installed where old gas hot water heater was.

Asked by: Katy
Yes it can as that is exactly what I did. The new unit will also take up considerably less space.

How does it work?

How does it work?
Asked by: Marlene
The water is heated as it flows through the unit, on demand, when you turn on your faucet or shower. We installed it in a rental unit and it works great!! Cuts down on energy costs of heating a bunch of water in a tank. It's large and should be installed inside vs outside so you do need the space for it. But highly recommend it!

I"m an engineer, so I decided that I should install the new heater myself for a learning experience. First off, the threaded conduits are 1/2", unlike standard American water heaters which use 3/4" fittings, so there will be a need of a 1/2"-to--3/4" adapter which is no big deal for the gas inlet. There is no hose barb that comes with both 3/4" and 1/2" fitting a same hose, so I had to force the hose on the 1/2" barb, which is difficult but can be done. The unit is light in weigh and can be easily installed on a dry wall with the screws provided. At maximum setting of hot water it didn't start the gas burner. I was panicking a little bit but then I ventured to set the hot water flow to a minimum then the heater fires up and works properly, even better than a housemate expected - but he's no engineer. Therefore, due to the Chinese's use of 1/2" pipes which could fail some installer, I'll give it 4 stars. I think tankless water heater is definitely the way to go: it's both cheaper and lighter and possibly more durable than conventional water heaters.

Your site helped us troubleshoot. The clips in the battery cap were bent such that they didn't make a connection. We bent them and it worked. The. O-ring on the water discharge wad broke so we had to replace that. It was her frustrating. Working now. Tenants just moved in so will need to rate it again later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So happy I found this My old water heater blew up. I couldn't afford a new 40 gallon Gas unit. I live in a small house. One bathroom, kitchen sink, clothes washer and dishwasher. It makes plenty of hot water. I was a little nervous after I bought it, when I realized I live in an area with cooler water temps. Had it a few weeks now, and have it set perfect. ONE NOTE: if you have pipes that "bang" when you turn on the hot water quick, this unit will sense that pressure and turn itself off. Had to secure one old hot water pipe in the basement, but after that it worked great. Also, use GOOD batteries in it. It makes a difference.

Pleased with the performance of the unit so far (1 user at a time). Heater arrived with a torn O-ring (water drain stem) that I had to replace. Communication with Marey about the O-ring was a waste of time, I couldn't get answers to simple questions. For example: While awaiting the heater arrival in mail, I wanted to know if the brass 1/2" connectors were male or female so I would be prepared to install. Impossible to tell from the diagram. Marey rep. was unable to answer my question. Instead I got a form reply or answer that wasn't pertinent. IF you have experience installing water heaters and can do your own trouble-shooting I would recommend this heater. Customer support (in my experience) was horrible.

Four stars because this item would have been ideal for what I was looking for to self install. Unfortunately I had to cancel the order after discovering it had venting requirements that precluded installing in my home, so I had to order a different unit .( plan was to use my chimney from the basement which is where the old 40 gallon vented into,) big no- no for tankless heaters. If you plan to do a self-install be sure to determine first, if a particular model is suitable for your Situitation . Location in the home, gas( or electric ) supply requirements , and proper venting are crucial for satisfactory and safe operation .

Works great but you need to find a balance for the water flow so it fires up because if you have the flow to high it won't fire until you reach that flow, it also won't fire if there's air in the water lines. The temp. does drop after flowing a bit so i turned up the temp a little. Really easy installation. I used shark bite fittings and pex line. The hardest part was getting the lines off the old tank and then i just incorporated them into the new heater. If i didn't have to get parts i would have had it installed in under 2 hours. All in all i'm very happy.

For showers make sure you have a 2.75 gpm or greater shower head. Connections are 1/2" male. You'll probably need some adapters. Heater works really good by itself.
