Aluminum can be painted. To be successfully painted, the surface has to be prepared to increase the adhesion of the paint to insure that the paint sticks to the hard slick metallic surface. Look on line for information about painting aluminum. You will learn that surface preparation is required to to successfully paint "raw" aluminum.

hello jaydee - if ur not concerned with a finished look, the aluminum is easy to drill / make a starter hole, then easily cut with metal snips - bu-ut because it's thin, ull need to handle fairly gently / with support to minimize distortion - and yes, i would sand 1st as the finish is very smooth - for a more durable surface, i would primer too ...
