Questions & Answers

Shsower headflows when trying to fill the tub

The contractor that I hired for my bathroom remodel installed this Moen Banbury tub spout/shower head into our newly remodeled bathroom. When ever I turn on the water now it flows from both the tub spout and the shower head. This is really annoying (and messy). I dug out the installation instructions and studied them. Instructions say that the tub spout should be no greater than 11 inches below the valve. I measured the distance from the bottom of the cover plate to the top of the spout at 12 inches. Center of the valve handle to the center of the spout is 16 inches. Is this distance the reason for the problem? If so is there any fix short of tearing up the wall and relocating everything? (I really don't want to deal with this contractor any more.)

Just to follow up on this (I'm the one who posed the original question above), to fix the problem we hired a different contractor, who hired a professional, licensed plumber, and they re-positioned the valve according to the instructions from Moen and now it works great. The problem was not the valve, it was clearly the installation. Unfortunately this required breaking into the wall and re-tiling the shower, so it cost us a bundle. I have found out since that the first contractor was not licensed to do plumbing work. My recommendation: Be sure you hire a licensed plumber who will read and follow directions.

Can I regulate the flow of water with the handle?

The water flow is a bit to much for me, with my previous tub an shower faucet I was able to regulate the flow with the handle. I bought this product on January and things got way behind on my remodeling so just last week I was able to install the shower head and use it for the first time. I am a DIY and got this product because of the looks, but now I am not too happy that I am not able to regulate the water flow. I should have gotten information first, but I just loved the looks of this product. Help!

They make flow reducers that look like a washer that goes into the shower head base. Any decent hardware store should have one. I carry a pair of channel lock pliers on trips, to remove hotel shower heads and take this washer out while I stay there.

I would like to increase the water pressure. How do I do this?

I just had this fixture installed during my bathroom remodel project. The water pressure is significantly lower than my previous showerhead. Hopefully, it can be adjusted, otherwise, I will return.
Asked by: Jackie
This shower head comes with a flow restriction as a water saving measure If it is pressure from the shower head that you want to increase, you could remove that flow restriction.

I replaced a 15 year old shower head / faucet kit due to age...the faucet was still functional with no leaks. This piece of junk began leaking after 15 months of use. Replacement cartridge is cheap as is the design of the product. Huge gap in the faucet handle looks awful as well. I will NOT buy Moen again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice quality faucet We replaced a 20 year old faucet with this one and I was slighlty worried about water pressure but this shower head did not disappoint. Its not as high pressured as my original shower head but I have no complaints. I have waist length thick hair and love this showerhead. We had only one problem. After having this set up installed for 3 weeks, the shower diverter broke and we could not pull up the toggle on the faucet to make the shower head work. I emailed Moen customer service and enclosed my reciept, and with no questions asked, they 2 day FedEx Aired us one free of charge. This faucet has a lifetime guarentee..We bought a delta faucet for our pedestal sink and it matches the Moen one perfectly in color and style.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 yr to failure I'm 2 years since install and the cartridge has gone out. It started a week before with the handle being difficult to close and then poof, it spun instead of closing leaving my water on. I was fortunate to have installed a couple of valves behind my washer or else it would have been no water to the house just to keep us from flooding. I'll have to remove tile and redo plumbing to make this work. I have yet to get a new part, though I'm sure Moen will honor the warranty. Still, even with the warranty, I'll be several hours over several days to get this fixed. Should I put this same part in? and risk having to tear apart my bathroom again in 2 years?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Products This is my second 82910 set. First bought May 2011 at original remodel. Replaced Positemp 1222 cartridge every 2 years since then due to very hard water. Bathroom update happening now - just replaced cart with 1222HD brass unit and new Banbury chrome for fresh looks. I saw in a video that 1222HD cartridge have lifetime warranty? Interested if I can send in an old one and trade for a new one. Thanks for making solid products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design The water comes out of both the bottom faucet and shower head on the top regardless of if you pull the little knob switch or not. As i read from other people on here with similar issues, it looks to be poor factory design Im in the process of contacting HD and Moen to try and get this valve changed. And seems the only way to fix it, is to change the valve with another model altogether.

This was my second installation of a shower/tub fixture and it was slightly more complicated than the first due to the anti-scald feature but overall the instructions were easy to follow. I removed the water restrictor from the shower head (I should add I had to drill it out) and love the power both the shower head and tub faucet put out. My only reason for not giving this set 5 stars is that it really is made for a thick tiled shower wall. I followed the instructions for a thin wall installation but the handle sticks out about 1.5 inches and looks bad in my old shower. So if you have tiled shower walls I say go for it, but if you don't just know it won't look as nice as it should. I chose it in the store because I played with all the sets in my budget range and the handle is very sturdy and so is the pop up shower divertor on the tub spout. The products all priced below this had a lot of play in them and this set absolutely does not.
