Wouldn’t consider myself very mechanically inclined and have never dabbled with any plumbing related DIY projects but this wasn’t too difficult. Our old Insinkerator failed and we decided to try this Moen disposal with a little more HP. I think it took me a little less than 2 hours to do, but I took my time and am a meticulous instruction reader so it can definitely be done in less time, especially if it’s not your first experience with a similar repair.
So far, the unit has worked well. As other reviewers mentioned, there is a louder clang noise at start up that is a little annoying but no regrets. Happy with the product at the price.

Reason I buy Moen
The old, nasty garbage disposal that was in the house we bought of course broke down while my husband was away on work. From deciding what I needed, to installation, Moen made it so easy. I never would have guessed that I could remove an old garbage disposal and install a new one. Moen's instructions walked me through every step. Moen has always been my go to. 5 stars
because I know that if I do have any questions or concerns, their customer service is excellent.

Looks Good, But
I don't make it a habit of giving any of Home Depot suppliers a 1-star, but this garbage disposal from Meon didn't even last 2 years.
I am totally in shock, because growing up, my dad would try to buy Meon products (use to be made in the USA), because the product would last. My parents had faucets made by Moen that lasted over 50 years in their home; so naturally I bought Moen Garbage Disposal (this exact product) for my own house when we got a brand new countertop and sink (from Home Depot) just 2 years ago.
Unlike the good ol' days, this Moen garbage disposal is made in China. Looks Good, But the only garbage this disposal is doing now, is being disposed in my garbage can. What a waste of time and money.
Until Moen either makes their products once again in the USA, OR guarantees a life time warranty on their "made in China" products, I won't be purchasing their products any time soon.

Rusts easily, jams constantly.
With no allen wrench adapter beneath the unit to free it in a jam, this unit is possibly the worst disposal unit I've ever experienced. The insides rust solidly and jam, even in our sink which is NOT the primary dish washing sink (it receives little to no solids to dispose of). Without the allen wrench access, I am forced to stick a long metal rod down into the sink and pry the unit from it's rusted state just to get it to turn when the power is applied.
Horrible design.
Inside is a rust bucket.

The installation instructions included with the Moen Prep Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal with Sound Reduction and Universal Mount suggests using a long wooden object, such as a wooden spoon, to unjam the disposal. We also have a Moen Garbage Disposal Unjamming Wrench available for purchase, part number 1037. This non-warranty part/tool is not included with the purchase of a new Moen disposal. As the original purchaser of the disposal you can contact Moen directly under the product 5 year limited warranty.
