Questions & Answers

Can this tile be used in a shower? Also, after installation, does it require to be grouted?

Asked by: Jeremy
Has anyone use this product in their shower as an accent of part of the wall?

Do you need grout for the tiles? It looks like the seams are tight enough to not need it, but how does that look?

Asked by: Matthew
I did not grout - just 3/4" trowel thinset on the cement board and back buttered the stones. they fit together great.. Here/there you may want to use a shim to hold it in place nice and tight so there is no sagging in the stones until the modified thinset dries - then just pull out the shims

modified thinset is what I used to adhere the stone to the cement board... I back buttered the stone and put a 3/4" trowel on the cement board

Customer Reviews

Golden Honey Ledger Panel 6 in. x 24 in. Natural Quartzite Wall Tile (6 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 92.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like a milliion dollars Firstly, this is REAL stone and beats the fake stuff by a mile! I agree w/ other reviewers in that a good wet tile saw (HD has a good one for < $100) is invaluable as I put up 100 sq. ft. of these tile/stones and it required numerous custom cuts. Also, do buy a good fast-setting poly-modified tile mortar. I used a Mapei product that set up fairly firm in 1 hr. Lastly, if you are doing a full wall (8' or more), it is a good idea to put up cement board as your backer as drywall is NOT reliable--paper could peel off and wall w/ it! NOTE: once it's on wall, it's staying on so make all your cuts and do dry run first for all custom fits and ends!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is good looking stone I used this product to reface my nasty old stone fireplace. The shape of the panels and the consistent sizing really concealed the joints. The stone was soft and easily cut with my 99 dollar wet saw, though for a larger job I would have rented an overhead model with a sliding table since all the cuts were crosscuts. Out of the 11 cases shipped there were no broken tiles and the colors were very uniform resulting in a nice looking project. Glued panels were very sturdy. Installation was straightforward with white thinset mortar, no grout lines allowed me to work as high as I liked without shims. Good product.

He really enjoys working with ledger stone panels like this. Easy to cut, fit great, small gaps. When finished, you need to fill the cracks with a sand grout calk.

Rated average because I found 12 slabs broken upon pickup and had to return for more boxes. Recommend you inspect the inside of all boxes at the store.

This was my first time doing anything of this nature, and it was a success in my opinion. Good variety of colors within each panel (not heavy with any particular color). My only two complaints with this product: 1) they do not make corner pieces in this color, 2) there were a good bit of pieces that had the manufacturers glue on the face, not just the back. I worked around it by using these pieces for the corners/sides and was able to cut them smaller. But, had I not been using small pieces for the sides, this would have taken the review down at least one star. Overall, very good product and easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning focal wall I wanted a stacked stone wall behind the bed in my guest room. I saw this stone online and was not disappointed when it arrived. It was delivered quickly and without damage. The stone quality and colors are as represented on the HD website. Everyone that sees this wall is stunned at it's beauty. No one can tell the stone came in 6x24" blocks. I am ecstatic with the result. I had an experienced handyman install the stone. He removed the drywall and replaced it with cement board prior to hanging the stone. He felt the stone was easy to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice solution I researched a lot of stores and found similar products with a wide price range. Home Depot offered a competitive product at an outstanding price (others were more than double the price). Because this was an online only order situation, I couldn’t actually see the product before buying it. I was pleasantly surprised that the stacked stone was as advertised and met my expectations. I was also concerned about breakage in transit. Before I took the boxes from the store, I opened each and from 10 cases, only found 2 pieces broken, which I accepted knowing I’d be cutting a lot of these into smaller pieces. Pros: great price, fast shipment, looks great on the wall, and the tile nature allows for even a novice like myself to put them up and have the finished project look good – meaning, you don’t need to be exact as with many other tiles that aren’t as forgiving. Cons: tile pieces are a little brittle. I have broken some with only a light or casual bump (prior to applying to the wall). A couple of the breaks I corrected by gluing the pieces back together. The break line was virtually invisible. You will find a small amount of glue slop on some, not all, of the tiles. These small glue slops (in manufacturing) were easy to pop off and left no marks. Tips: (1) These tiles are heavy. In areas where the tile did not have a counter top as a base, I had to put in the bottom row first (using nails to support the tile) and let dry, so as to build a platform for the tiles above. (2) The hardest issue I dealt with was cutting out for electrical outlets. Anticipate some of the stones to break when doing smaller and finer cuts. I used a 7 inch wet saw and a 4½ inch angle grinder blade for the more delicate work. I also used a regular drill with a masonry stone to etch out some of the smallest areas where the saw was simply too big to use. (3) I used powder mastic and not the premix. You’ll need a fair amount of mastic material, and make sure to apply to both the wall and the back of the tile. The tile is irregular on the back to some degree, and you want to fill in any holes or gaps. I never had mastic squish through the gaps, but I also avoided applying mastic to the very edge of each tile. (4) I elected to use a stone sealer before I applied the tiles. I had no discoloration. My project was a kitchen back splash, so I had a possibility of food splatters to consider. As an experiment, I took a small scrap piece and applied stone sealer to half and let cure for 48 hours. Then I did my best to stain the entire tile with tomato based sauces, mustard, ketchup and teriyaki. Everything I applied washed off without a stain, even from the non-treated portion. When the sauce was still wet, it came off with ease. After the mustard, etc had dried, it took a bit more effort with a wet cloth, but everything came off. I would still recommend applying sealer, but I feel better knowing that the raw stone is pretty resistant already. (5) I experimented with electrical outlets, and found that having the cover plate for the outlet on top of the tile looked better than cutting out a rectangle and having the outlet cover inside of the stone. Cutting the exact rectangle was a royal pain resulting in breakage. But to place the outlet cover on the exterior of the stone requires finding the right tile piece for that location. You’ll want to get a piece that is fairly smooth in that particular area, otherwise you’ll need to use your grinder to flatten out the high spots. With minimal effort I was able to find the right pieces and have the electrical outlet covers fit relatively flat. 6) For what it’s worth, my project was 50 sq ft of area. I purchased 60 sq ft of tile. I used 58 sq ft of tile. The mastic I purchased was a 50 pound bag, and I ended up with enough for 2 more sq ft – I also realize that I applied my mastic too heavy when I first started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product To Work With and Looks Great! Love It! I ordered 20 boxes of this stone and it arrived on-time and not one single piece was damaged. Took us a few days to finish hanging it all but it looks great and we are thrilled with the outcome. Be sure to use cement board if using on an interior wall made of drywall - some people told me it was okay to hang directly on the drywall but the more I researched it - you definitly want to use the cement board to be sure it's secure and has a stable surface to adhere to. The colors are really nice and they do a great job of making each piece a mixture of random colors and stone types so you don't have any areas that seem saturated with one color. Very, very pleased with this product and it was a fraction of the price of other competitors! I highly recommend it!
