Add a splash of contemporary styling to your decor with this 12 in. x 24 in. Gauged Slate floor and wall tile. This first-quality tile makes a statement on floors, walls and countertops. Designed with a natural, unglazed finish, this flooring option features random variations in tone that create a stylish complement for a wide variety of design schemes. It is recommended for commercial applications but can be used residentially. Offering supreme style and strength, the skid-resistant tile absorbs less than 0.5% of water, making it a perfect choice for indoor and some outdoor uses. The easy-to-maintain natural stone tile inherently lacks uniformity, varying in color, shade and finish. Included per case are 5-pieces. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer.

We are installing this Montauk Blue in the lower level of our home.
So we decided to pull the trigger and order the montauk blue slate for our home in Alaska without ever seeing it in person and we were not disappointed. The color is a blue/green/grey and it is gorgeous with stone enhancer applied. These pictures are prior to grout being applied. Our contactor says the stone is easy to cut, but it is not perfectly square.

Bathroom project just completed with this tile. Am very pleased with it. The color is beautiful and love the texture of real slate! Because it is natural slate it is not always perfectly even like ceramic tile, so takes some time and patience to put in and make sure is level. Had the tile shipped to my home and that worked great. Was packed well and no tiles were broken or damaged.

wrong color tile shipped
I purchased 4 pallets, 320 sqft, of the Montauk Blue Ashlar Pattern Gauged Slate Floor and Wall Tile kits and had them delivered to the store. I then brought one of the 80 sqft boxes home and although the tile appears to be of good quality, it is no where near the color or variation shown on the pictures online. It is a very consistent green/brown/gray slate with 0 variation between tiles. I tried wetting down the tile but that only brought out more of the warm green color in my opinion. The boxes the tile came in were also simple brown unbranded cardboard boxes so there was no way to tell if home depot accidentally shipped the wrong tile or the picture online is just wrong. Unfortunately i had to return the full lot, which is unfortunate because we really loved the tile shown in the images.

Beautiful slate tiles but they vary in size and thickness
The tiles were a little more greenish blue that we were expecting and vary in thickness. We made sure that the subfloor was level...but still had to float some tiles to make the floor even. Also, not all tiles were perfectly rectangular so we ended up trimming some of them to keep the grout lines straight. But for the low cost of this tile, you should expect them to not be perfect.
So, this is definitely not a beginner's tiling project. If you are willing to futz with it, you will have a beautiful (and fairly cheap!) floor. Otherwise, you may end up with an uneven floor/catching your feet on uneven tiles.
For the record, the tiles were expertly delivered - not a single broken tile in the 13 boxes we ordered!

Beautiful
These slate tiles are absolutely stunning. If you are like me and appreciate natural beauty, these are a great choice at a great price point. A little more costly than the cheaper porcelain tiles but they are thick, solid, and probably can take a lot of abuse. What I love the most is each individual tile has a different textured pattern. If you’re lucky, some pieces have a gold glitter-like residue from a secondary stone (pyrite?). However, we were only gifted with 3 tiles with these special attributes. The tiles pictured below have a protective seal on top to give it a wet look. You can change the type of shine depending on preference. Easy to clean and supprisingly masks pet hair better than my previous flooring. Can’t wait to install these tiles in my bathrooms.
