Mahogany Premium Wood Shelving Kit with Closet Rod, 1 Shelf 14in D x 48 in L

Very attractive and durable extra shelving unit.  The Mahogany color is very true to color, and looks more real than manufactured.  Love the look of "real wood".  Great overall design and utility.  Strong and very sturdy to hold most storage needs in your choice of locations.  Does require a determination as to placement, and be modified for closet installation or in a method of your choosing.  Mine will be installed inside a garage area for a much needed coat rack, and winter coat storage.  The hardware is a beautiful black in a powder coated fine finish. Rubbermaid products have always had a great reputation, and it one of their nicest shelving units. Also a dream to clean with it's thermal infused coating for durability.   I highly recommend this to all interested Home Depot shoppers.  

The Rubbermaid 48 in. Rapid Wood Shelf Kit is one of the highest quality product in this arena. The Mahogany finish is very pleasing and the hardware is extremely sturdy with easy gliding rod for hanging clothes or other items. The shelf itself is thick and sturdy so it will not bend or sag over time. The instructions for installation are exceptionally specific and, if followed, the installation process is flawless. We heartily recommend this high quality shelf/hanger combo kit.

I received this Rubbermaid 48 in. RAPID WOOD SHELF KIT - 1 MAHOGANY SHELF WITH ROD, Brown a few days ago and I am very pleased with the room it created in my closet. It is very easy to install and has easy to step-by-step instructions included. Once it is up it is very sturdy, I like that it comes with a bar to hang up hangers comes in handy in my closet. The materials used are made well and it didn't take long to install.

The shelf looks great! The shelf itself is nice and thick so it won’t sag. The brackets that hold the bar have a nice matte black color to it. I was surprised at how many steps the instructions had to hang this. The shelf does need to be hung in the corner. One of the brackets does need to be screwed into the side wall for support. Make sure you use the drywall anchors wherever there isn’t a stud.

The item is a 14” x 48” shelf with a clothes rod beneath. The color I received was Dark, Mahogany Brown. Very nice color. The main metal bracket and the diagonal brackets are dark brown. They blend nicely into the color of the shelf. The shelf end caps are black. There are decisions that must be made before assembly can happen. The shelf is 48” wide. You could use it as a nice-looking open self in plain sight in a room. If you do not need the coat rack, you still need the brackets that would have held the rod to take weight of items put on the shelf. (If this is your desire, you could probably find a similar shelf without the clothes hanging option but this one is very nice). Our decision is to have this shelf with clothes rod to be installed near a door that leads to the garage and we need to hang coats as you come into the house. This shelf could also be used in a coat closet. One of my coat closets is only 36 inches wide. The shelf, the main mounting bracket, and the clothes rod would have to be shortened per the instructions in the installation guide. Now that you have created the proper lengths for your mounting site, here are more decisions. Which side of the self to you want up? Since my application is a high coat rack. I probably will never see the top of the shelf. I chose “Pretty” side down (both sides were very close to identical). I wanted to predrill the holes from the brackets into the shelf. To do this I decided to insert 4 of the screws that were going into the wall into the main wall bracket (2 near each end of the shelf). The shelf, when inserted, will bump into the screw heads so shelf is separated from the bracket the same distance as it would be after the main bracket is screwed in place on the wall. The holes should still line up after inserting the shelf in the bracket. Mounting the diagonal brackets was next. Aesthetics is probably more important than hitting a wall stud. If you can hit at least one stud it would be helpful, but the plastic connectors that are provided are rated at about 100 - 125 lbs. each. The main wall bracket will take over half the weight of the clothes on hangers plus anything stored on the top of the shelf. (Also, the main bracket is screwed into studs in two or three places). The remaining downward weight is directed down to the bottoms of the 3 diagonal braces (again 100 – 125 lbs. each). There are two white metal brackets that hold the black plastic trim that attach to each end of the 48” ends of the shelf board. Their purpose of the white bracket is to hold the black trim pieces that fit over the ends of the shelf. The white metal brackets are not part of the strength of the shelf. I positioned the white brackets at the ends of the boards as shown in the instructions. I placed the black trim pieces over the shelf and the bracket like it would be when finished. I then slide the black trim onto the shelf so that it bumped into the front of the shelf. I slid the white, metal trim back and forth so that the black plastic trim hooks were centered over attach points on the bracket. That is when I screwed down the white bracket and attempted to place the black plastic brackets. After doing this, I noticed that the white color was visible at the ends of the shelf. I had trouble getting the black plastic trim to stay on. They kept coming loose. I spent a couple of hours trying to make them work properly and failed. I believe the trim would work in a closet where the side walls hold the brackets against the ends of the shelf. When mounting on a room wall, I would suggest that you paint the ends of the shelf with black paint; discard the white metal bracket; and use screws (one top and one bottom) through the black plastic trim to hold it to the shelf. In my mounting on a room wall, I noticed I had placed the rod supports in the wrong locations. I followed instructions and placed the supports so that the loading would be even for all the brackets. The error was that when the brackets are not at the ends of the rod, there is no stop for coat hangers. I needed to put one support at the center and another at the two ends of the rod, so the hangers do not fall off. Alternatively, I decided to put a 1/4x1/2” hex-head bolt into the rod at each end of the rod. I can access the bolt’s threads and put a lock nut inside the rod. I positioned (tilted the bolts about 30 degree to the back) the bolts at the top of the rod and squeezed the rod into the brackets. The hangers should bump into the bolt heads so the hangers don’t fall off the ends of the rod. I also put an extra nut next to the bolt head outside the rod which made the hanger less likely to miss the bolt. Nice unit and looks great.

This is a very heavy, substantial shelving unit. The 4 ft. mahogany color shelf itself is long and wide enough to store a myriad of items. The only thing that surprised me was that there were 24 steps to assemble this shelf. It was also made to be secured to an adjacent wall, which is not how I wanted to hang this unit.I improvised so that it would hang as a stand alone on one wall. It turned out great.

Very Sturdy. This is designed to not only be supported by the angled brackets, but the back and side brackets as well. This is a 48" shelf to go in a 48" space, you can however cut it down for a narrower area, though that would get tricky. The surface looks really good and it's solidly heavy. Something to pile those board games on at the back of the closet, or hide Christmas presents on. This is a great addition for new home or condo where you have closet space but no shelf. Take your time and you can DIY this one too. Remember measure twice..

This Mahogany colored shelf from the trusted company Rubbermaid is attractive and more robust than most other shelves of this type. When assembled, as instructed, it is exceptionally strong and able to support a heavy load. It was easy to assemble and the instructions supplied are good. All the needed hardware is supplied. Since one unfinished end of the melamine shelf was exposed, we chose to paint the exposed end to match, instead of using the supplied plastic end cap. We have supplied photos to explain.

The Rubbermaid 48 in. Rapid Wood Shelf Kit-1 mahogany shelf with rod-brown is a wonderful step-up from wire shelving for your closet. The wood shelf is a beautifully finished shelf and is very solid. I like the way shelving parts are constructed and the quality of materials used. I have many closets I would like to install these great looking Rubbermaid Rapid Wood shelf kits in. The instructions are good and easy steps to follow.
