A:  Hi, Yes, in general you can use the Makinex JHT-U-2 Jack hammer Trolley to remove tile on plywood subfloors. However, the ease of this process does depend on the condition of the subfloor and how the tile and thin-set was laid. Best regards, American Pro Equipment Sales (APES)

Q:Will it remove glued to concrete engineered hardwood?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Abigmess19, I can tell you this from experience after recently removing and installing a new floor at my house, trying to remove glued on hardwood floors from a concrete slab is always a sticky situation; pun intentional The Makinex Jackhammer Trolley is a great tool to help with this when paired with the Makinex Tile Smasher. If the glue is old and brittle, you will find the wood and glue can be very easily to removed with this combo. However, if the glue is very thick and tacky, it will be harder to remove. You can do things like prescoring the floor with a hand saw to take it up in smaller sections to aid in the process. With tacky glues, you will often find a lot of residue left once the floor is removed which may require grinding or chemicals to fully remove and prep the surface. I hope this helps and good luck with your project! Best regards, American Pro Equipment Sales (APES)

A:  We used our exclusively for tile bit I am sure it would work great for removing wood flooring. You would probably need to follow up with a sander to remove any remaining glue. You would also need to be careful to not dig into the concrete, which is easy to do.

Wow! What a Labor Saver !
We had about 990 squares of tile we needed to bust and under normal circumstances it would take 3 guys about an hour to clear out all the tile. We did that and more in about 15 minutes with this jack hammer and trolley cart. Got to have one! We purchased ours the same day. Never going back to the old way again. This thing saves time and back breaking labor. My guys love it and if my business continues to grow I'm sure we're going to get a few more.

It completely met my expectations, I would only suggest one thing, depending on the end use, be familiar with the type and style hammer you use, I personally found that stronger harder hitting hammer isn’t the best for tile removal. As far as the dolley itself, couldn’t be more pleased.

              Saved me 5 days!
This Trolley saved us 5 days on a tile removal job. We used it with a Makita 1307 breaker on it worked fine. I was told we were supposed to rest the breaker every hour or so, but it was so easy to use we forgot. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone removing tile flooring.

              I love this tool
I purchased this trolley to use with a 35 Lb Makita hammer for tile removal. I was amazed how much faster it was than using the hammer by hand, and much easier on my body at the end of the day. The adjustable angle is very useful since I found that popping the tiles worked best when the hammer was at a shallow angle, but the thin set came up much better when I used it at a much higher angle of attack. I have only used this on 2 jobs so far but it has been a great help ;)

              Hi Unicorn480,

Thank you for your review of the Makinex Jack Hammer Trolley Universal! We appreciate you sharing your experience using our products!

Exactly as you said, we find that each floor tends to have its own "sweet spot", when it comes to the angle of attack that works best on it. The trick is to find it, and allow the hammer to do the work; your back with thank you later.

I also used this as a rental tool
I used this to remove engineered hardwood that had been glued down to the slab. I am not going to tell you that you don't have to work at it to get the hardwood to come up, but this tool was worth every penny it cost me to rent it. In some spots it came up like a hot knife through butter. In other spots where the glue was thicker I had to work at it a little more, but this machine more than met my expectations. If you are looking to get hardwood off a cement floor that has been glued down ... this is the tool for you. As a side note ... I am in excellent physical condition and after 12 hours of running this machine straight ... I was pretty sore. The jarring you take from this is pretty good. I didn't really notice it while I was running the jackhammer, but after the day was done and I sat down finally to rest ... I was worn out and my hands, back, legs, and shoulders were pretty sore. Make sure you wear some gloves when using this or you will get blisters on your hands.

              Hi rhoffman1007,

Thank you for letting people know about your experience using the Makinex Jack Hammer Trolley Universal! It means a great deal to us!

Removing hardwood floors is tough work, and we know our equipment can make it an easier job. As you noted, if there is a ton of glue sometimes there isn't an a simple answer to how to get it up. You might be doing it already, but if you score the floor prior to removal, it will allow you to take it up in smaller sections. Hopefully this tip helps you out on some future jobs.
