Can this be used to cut 1/8th inch flat stock steel?

Asked by John February 11, 2019

Answers

Yes and no. What "can" be done and what SHOULD be done are different. I have cut many pieces of pvc, vinyl, and THIN (less than 1/16" metal) with blades like this easily. So Yes it probably can cut 1/8" flat steel if you flip the blade to turn backwards and go very very slowly. It will be extremely loud, very slow, probably dangerous, and will ruin the blade in a day. The blade isn't made for that type of cutting and you should just buy a metal cutting blade for your application which will work MUCH faster and be MUCH cheaper than this anyway. Final answer: NO. Dont use this blade for 1/8" steel.

What is the "hook" angle of teeth on this blade?

Asked by Mick September 23, 2018

Answers

Makita doesn't publish the hook angle for this blade, Part No. A-93681. They do make another line of miter saw blades (Makita Max Efficiency), and that line's 10", 80 teeth blade (Part No. B-66977) has a 10 degree hook angle.

Is this blade suitable for cutting finish trim?

Answer

Thank you for your question. The A-93706 12" x 1" 40T Micro-Polished Miter Saw Blade is capable of completing the job, but more teeth will ensure a finer cutting finish. Please see the A-94801 12" x 1" 80T Ultra-Coated Miter Saw Blade or the A-94817 12" x 1" 100T Ultra-Coated Miter Saw Blade for more suitable options.

Glass-Like Cuts!
This 100T finish quality miter saw blade with its 1" arbor works great with my 12" Hitachi miter saw. I tested it out on both hardwood (walnut) and softwood (pine). The resulting cut on each of them was super smooth. I'd say it would take at least 220 grit sanding to get lumber to a similar level of smoothness left by this blade. The pine had 2-3 spots with splinter-sized tear-out, but that was it. The walnut had absolutely zero tear-out. Obviously it will be a little slower going than a 24T framing blade, but it still offers decent cut speeds, and the cut quality is definitely worth the extra time. The only downside I can think of is that the first few cuts get a bit of the Makita teal color on them, but this has happened with about every brand of saw blade I've ever used.

Blade used for cutting poplar trim. 8 carbide teeth have come off the blade. I have never had a blade fail in this manner. I also have other Makita blades for years with no failures. Maybe this is a defective blade. I don’t recommend.

OH BOY!!! I own an old heavy miter saw that was gidted to me by a friend. It ccame with a Dewl finish blade that had seen better days. I suspected the motor on my saw was overworking cause i could hear the motor strain when i would cut. It would leave splintered ends as well. So I bought this, thinking Makita on Makita would do well. OMGOD it cuts GREAT!!! motor sounds way better and cuts leave a smooth edge. NICE!!! highly recommend. glad i found it
