Landscapers and contractors are demanding more cordless alternatives to gas-powered outdoor power equipment. Makita is meeting demand with an expanding line of cordless OPE, including the 18-Volt X2 LXT (36-Volt) Brushless 14 in. Chain Saw (model XCU07Z, tool only, batteries and charger sold separately). With zero emissions, lower noise and considerably less maintenance, the XCU07Z is a welcome solution for cutting and trimming applications. Its powered by two 18-Volt LXT batteries (sold separately) for 36-Volt power and run time, but without leaving the strongly-preferred 18-Volt battery platform. And with the efficient Makita outer rotor Brushless Motor with direct drive system, users get high power efficiency that is equivalent to a gas chain saw. The XCU07Z has a 14 in. guide bar and the Makita-built motor with variable speed delivers 0 FPM to 3,940 FPM for increased cutting speed. It has zero emissions and reduced maintenance: there's no engine oil to change, no spark plug to replace and no air filter or muffler to clean. And there's no need to drain the fuel for storage. Simply pick it up, load two 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion batteries (sold separately) and the saw is ready to use. Convenience features include captured bar nuts, lateral tensioning, a front hand guard engineered to actuate chain brake when engaged and a built-on lock lever to help prevent the chain from accidentally engaging.
I have been using it to cut down small trees, works great for that, light weight and the batteries seem to last for a while, not sure how it would work for larger trees

Battery Life Heavy use
I've had the saw for 3 weeks now. The saw is well built, safe, a little heavy, balanced and seems a good choice for light work. The oiler needed adjustment far increased from the setting as delivered. Today I sawed thru a 12" aspen log 6 times. The batteries are new 5aH and fully charged. I needed a special cut out of the same aspen 38" long split lengthwise for a garden border. It did the cut but exhausted the batteries to near 0.
I think I need a gas chainsaw.

This is a nice saw compared to battery saws! Chain and bar are not the quality they should be but these days that’s what you get. The chain can bend easily so you need to be diligent on tightness and lubricant. I used it once for a small tree that fell in yard. It did the job well, cut through like butter. No gas no 2 cycle oil no noise. Satisfied

This product is easy to use, the narrow kerf allows the saw or perform better that expected on 10" - 12" dia. rounds.
The saw does "quit" after a time and restarts when the trigger is released and re-applied. For smaller jobs this saw can allow you to complete a small job (after storm downed limbs etc.) in the time it takes to fuel and start a gas powered saw. The fact that the saw uses the same batteries as my other Makita battery powered tools is a plus.

Powerful. Gets the job done like a gas chainsaw. Really shines in the lower rpms. Chain upgrades / Investing in at least 6-8 batteries for longer jobs recommend.
