If you need a light small saw , this is your best choice. Makita also makes some good electric chainsaws, although I've never owned one.

Great saw unless you need spare parts (read on for details)... I bought this chainsaw about 2 years ago and used it around 10 times (about 15 hours total). It was a very good saw and I rated it highly. Started fairly easily and when it ran it cut very well. Good handling and good light weight. I always ran the gas/oil mixture dry and removed the chain oil after each use. Then came the only issue. The carburetor went bad. A little disappointed after only 15 hours of usage but things happen and carburetors on chainsaws often need to be replaced. The part was not expensive so I took it to an authorized dealer to get it repaired. After 6 weeks of back and forth they finally said that for some reason (maybe COVID-19) many spare parts (including my new carburetor) were on back order. After another week I was told by the dealer that the part would have to be manufactured and they were given not any estimates on when that would happen. He guessed it would be 6 months or more. They reassembled my chainsaw, I picked it up and they did not charge me anything for the service since they could not fix it. Now I need to buy another chainsaw and while I had overall very positive experiences with this make and model I would not buy another Makita at this point because warranties don't mean much when spare parts are hard to come by. I know COVID-19 has affected many different companies and their parts suppliers. Hopefully when things return to normal the spare parts will come back and I will be able to repair my Makita and have two reliable saws. Hope this review helps.

Chainsaw appears well constructed. Very easy to set up and very easy to start. Used it several times since I received it, and it worked without any problems. Glad I spent the money to purchase this chainsaw rather than opt for the less expensive models. Would recommend this chainsaw for anyone looking to purchase a chainsaw that they would use occasionally, although, I'm sure it would work fine in heavier use.

This is not my first chainsaw. It is unnecessarily time-consuming to replace or re-seat chain onto drive sprocket. It’s only this difficult because of the “convenient” tool less chain tensioner. Also not sure it is going to keep the chain tensioned for long.

Sadly returned it chain cover and tensor way to flimsy. Know as a reviewer said will not last long. Just give me the old way of tightening and covering the sprocket.

I bought this Makita chainsaw because I thought Makita products had high quality. The chainsaw did work great the first time I used it. The second time I used it, however, the chain started slipping. It turns out that the chain tensioner is woefully underbuilt and can't handle the stress of normal use. It seems to have stripped itself (after maybe a total of 30 minutes runtime) and now the saw is basically useless. Makita doesn't have a fix for this and the cost of sending it in for warranty work is just not worth it since Makita makes customers pay for shipping. I guess I learned a costly lesson about Makita products.

I am a first time chainsaw owner/operator. I got the saw to cut up trees that have fallen down on my property. The saw was flawless and easy for diameters about 6-10 inches or smaller. For 16 inch diameter, I was wishing I had more power, but it worked great overall. Definitely recommend!

This saw worked great right out of the box. We got a full day's worth of work in with no problems. My only suggestion is that the gas and oil caps should be redesigned to better prevent dirt from entering when you remove the caps.

Makita makes the best chainsaws, period. This is a small pro saw at a homeowner price. I kinda like the blue color of my larger saws , but no biggie. after paying the Stihl dealer untold amounts of money over the years, I found Makita / Dolmar saws, and never looked back . High RPMs, plenty of power ,light weight ,and built to last a lot longer than the competition . Needed a small saw because my 64 cc saws are getting to heavy on my 50 year old abused back to use all day for small stuff , and this little beauty fit the bill perfectly.

This saw is excellent except for one thing, the sprocket cover assembly. This part holds the chain tension adjustment mechanism and the chain catcher. The sprocket cover, at least the one I got, is just too light weight plastic to hold up. The chain tension gearing is set in plastic which is too light to hold it securely, mine came loose in a short time. Using the top of the bar for limbing resulted in the chain coming off the bar despite careful adjustment of the tension, so I found out how weak the chain catcher is. Too bad because it is otherwise a really nice saw.
