I would say that dust collection on this saw is just average. I have never tried it with a shop vac attached though.

Can a dado blade be installed?

I located the answer to my question. No dado blades are to be used. To achieve a dado type cut, you have to "groove" cut. A better description is to make two cuts parallel with each other and then chisel out the between the cuts until the desired dado is complete. Wonder if there is a sliding compound miter saw that will accommodate a dado blade?

Just like your vehicle, you have speed or you have power. If your pulling a trailer you want power. If your in a hurry you need speed. This saw will cut a 2x12 just as fast as it cuts a 1/2" quarter round. If you are just doing light wood or trim the 4300 rpm may be better, but if you are going to cut 2x or 4x4 you want power. Even at a slower rpm this cuts 2x's faster than the 12" inch it replaced. It's the same difference as a worm drive circle saw versus a conventional

Review of a new Makita Model LS1016 dual slide compound miter saw
The saw works great and has many more options than my previous saw. So far I love it I have only done (1) project but I can not find any issues with this product. Very accurate, quick and cuts through even hard wood like butter.

Quality Saw
The saw was easy to put together, and the manual was clearly written. The fence was slightly out of square with the blade, but it was easily adjusted. The soft start feature is great, much better than my old skil chop saw. I wish the fence had a scale on it, but I purchased one and will put on it. Overall the quality is good which is expected of Makita. It feels slightly under-powered at times though. I put a thin kerf freud blade in it that seemed to help a little. It has an adjustable zero clearance insert which is nice. You will not be disappointed in this saw.

The best for our film company
We have a motion picture and sound company and there are no stores near where our sound stage and sets are. We ordered this saw for building sets and, with the stand, can move quickly through set lot . The crew loves this saw and says the fact that it is light with stand, able to maneuver it inside sets and outside through rough ground makes this a great product. No problems at all and Home Depot stands by their product and more important, by their loyal customers. My congrats to one of the best companies around. People count with them and that alone should get you to buy from them. We order everything we can through HomeDepot and we are big fans of Makita tools.

Makita LS1016L
Bought this amazing mitre saw recently. I must say it is so much more refined and versatile than my old Delta 10" compound mitre saw. Not to say that my Delta saw is no good, as it has given me many years of reliable solid service. Technology has come a long way since. The new motor is much quieter and with the electronically controlled speed and brake system, it is just a joy to use. Everything seems to be well thought out, as far as the design goes. Fine tuning it to specs is quite easy, as some adjustments were slightly out, probably through shipping. The other advantage is the stacked rail system which takes up much less space than the others.

Great quality saw. Very nice piece of equipment. It's a little confusing figuring out how everything works, but it cuts very accurately. I would definitely recommend this saw to anybody who does a lot of molding or laminate flooring. Only drawback is that it is pretty bulky and heavy. Still portable enough for one person to pick it up and move it around though.

I’m a DIY’er and this makita miter saw is more than I need. Plenty of power, accuracy, and reasonable footprint on my small shop space. Doubt A professional would consider this but I recommend for any DIYer with beginner/intermediate skills

I used the saw to cut 1" thick oak stair treads. There were some blade vibrations when the slide was all the way out to cut the 12" board but the cut was clean. The dust collection was just OK even hooked up to a shop vacuum. If I had to do it over again I would probably buy the LS1019L instead.

The ordering process was very easy. Picked it up at the Store…no shipping. Set Up was a breeze although the Instructions are almost laughable. If you’ve never owned a sliding miter saw it would be hard but I have so it was easy. Only a very slight adjustment to make it true 90!
