Compared to the RIDGID alternative, this one is better
I first bought the RIDGID 7" version only for it to fall apart on me. Instead of exchanging for a new one, I upgraded to the Makita instead. The guard is solid metal with a quick-release clamp. I also liked the trigger since it was good for both hands since the safety is easily accessible. I have never used a grinder before so I can't compare to others. However, I used this grinder with a diamond cup grinder and dust shroud hooked to my shop vac to grind a kitchen floor in prep for a new tile floor. The floor was covered in a ton of old mastic. I was able to get it all off in about 3 hours of work (spread out with breaks, of course). I was impressed with how well it worked.
(The before shot still had some framing from the old kitchen that was subsequently removed)

great grinder, I bought 2 !
I am a flooring contractor. we use these makitas to remove adhesives and thinset off concrete floors. we use the diamabrush with it. definitely I recommend it.

this MAKITA grinders are so strong and reliable under the the most extreme work conditions they will keep working and working no matter what, i use this grinder to polish aluminum and for sanding and they work so great it made my polishing jobs looks so shiny and do it faster they got a lot of power and YES I COULD RECOMEND THIS MACHINES!!!!

This grinder is a beast. The locking mechanism on the trigger helps when using Cupwheel attachments for concrete grinding and surface preparation. The spacers that come in the box, help a ton when adding a dust shroud to the grinder.
