The 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Drywall Screwdriver (model XSF03Z, tool only, batteries and charger sold separately) breaks new ground for drywall contractors. It's powered by a Makita brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. With the exclusive Push Drive Technology, the 18-Volt Drywall Screwdriver can be set on lock-on mode so the motor starts only when the fastener is engaged. This gives contractors a quieter work environment and also saves on battery power. It's built for added durability with Extreme Protection Technology (XPT), which is engineered for improved dust and water resistance for operation in harsh job site conditions. It is ideal for hanging sheetrock, metal framing, installing subfloors, backer board and decking applications. It's part of Makita's expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world's largest cordless tool line-up powered by 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

Questions & Answers

Is it normal for it to take one hour to charge one of these batteries?

Asked by: John
As the manufacturer said, it will take approximately 45 mins to fully charge the battery. Temperature is another factor that may make charging process longer

Would it be easy to cut 2 feet long of 1 inch thick Oak with this?
Asked by: Howie
Thank you for your question. You could make this cut, but it would consume several blades and it would be extremely slow. I would recommend using a circular or reciprocating saw for this job.

18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Drywall Screwdriver with Push Drive Technology (Tool-Only) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1152.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to LXT system! I had heard about this 18V cordless oscillating/multi tool coming from Makita for a little while. When I finally saw it in stores, I jumped all over it. I've been using their LXT tools for close to 6 years, and can't imagine using anything else. While it is a little thicker than some electric models, that's to be expected to give the tool balance with the weight of the battery. It's certainly not too big to control, though. I love that it comes with the 2 adaptors, so I know no matter what blades I come across, I can make them work in the tool. The on-tool wrench storage is handy. As far as performance, I'm more than pleased. As long as you don't expect it to run all day on one battery, you'll be more than fine. I have the Makita electric multi-tool and find I hardly ever grab it now, since this can go anywhere. Makita might have been late to the game with their multi-tools, but they were worth the wait. They run quiet, cut fast, and have way less vibration than even the most expensive ones out there.

I bought one of these about 3 years ago and returned it after one day of use. It didn't last for more than 5 minutes on a full charge, tried 3 different batteries. I needed it again today and decided to give it another shot. Bought a new one, put a half charged battery in it right when I got home and cut through old cast iron and brass pipes clogged full of rust and hardened gunk that took forever to cut. Then I cut all my PVC and it was still going strong. I either got a dud the first time around, or they improved the saw. Note that the battery I used was one of the same ones I tried with the previous saw 3 years ago, still going strong! Happy with the purchase this time around! By the way, the metal blade that came with it is not that great. Milwaukee 'Torch' blades are worth every single penny. 4/5 stars because I need to use it for a while at work and see if continues to hold its own. Will update (if I can) after a while of use.

The durability of the unit is questionable. I purchased the saw (minus battery and charger) as it was compatible with my existing Makita cordless tools. The purpose for the tool was to trimming tree branches. Fairly soon I noticed that the chuck that held the saw blade was loose. The chuck is held on the reciprocating shaft by two cap head screws and one had sheared off. As my experience with Makita cordless tools was good, I believed that this is a one-off failure. The unit was returned and replaced. Within several hours of use, the screws on the second unit started to loosen. It is for this reason that I would not recommend this saw except for the lightest of work. It does not live up to my expectations for a Makita tool.

I returned this after using it for 5 minutes. 1) The trigger release that allows you to pull the trigger is too small, too hard to push and is away from any reasonable finger to operate. I have large hands but could not use the release the trigger and operate the saw without using both hands. One for the trigger and one for the release button or trigger lock. I needed a third hand to hold the front of the saw firmly. Very poor design. 2) The trigger needed a lot of finger strength to keep it running at full variable speed. It would slow down and I could not figure out why until I realized that my finger had relaxed slightly. It took lots of concentration and finger strength to keep the saw running. I am sure that after using it for a while, the finger would fatigue. 3) Terribly under powered. I was cutting foam sheets 4 inches thick. This is a light and porous material. Easy to cut. However, the saw labored at times. I had a 5mah, fully charged Makita battery. Pros, it was cheap and light.

The various online reviews will tell you the standard types of things a multi-tool can do. But you won't really know how useful it is until you've got one. Today I used mine to cut a hole in a plastic goose. Never saw that use mentioned! But don't know how I would have done that without this tool. I'm finding myself using it almost daily for all kinds of weird things. Getting this one is a no-brainer if you already have other Makita 18v tools.

I've only had this a short while, but it seems to work as well as corded versions I've had. It is heavier, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Heavier also means more stable. The only negative is, as with all cordless tools, brand lock in. I have the Makita because I have other Makita cordless tools, and so have the batteries and chargers. It is too expensive and cumbersome to have multiple brands due to the proprietary batteries.
