Yes. The 5Ah will last longer than the 3Ah, but all of the 18v batteries will run it. I have this saw and have used it with the 3Ah, 4Ah, 5Ah, and even a knock-off 6Ah, all equally powerful.

kit says free battery 2 pack but the specifications say no batteries included doe the kit includ batteries or not?

Good Kit at a Decent Price Point
Bought this compact combo, which included an extra 2AH Battery. Was looking hard at the Big Red M tool line, but based on more than a few negative comments on the Red Hammer Drill I decided to go with Makita, Besides, I would rather have a Japanese tool over a China tool any day. Both the drill and the impact are very powerful. I like the advanced battery charger system with a chip in the battery and a CPU in the charger to enable a precision charge that optimizes battery charge and health. I like both tools fell solid and run great. I only have a couple of gripes after two days of steady use. First, the light on the tool is located just above the trigger and aims up at the bit. Only problem is that since the light is below the bit, you don’t actually get any light where you need it. The light is very bright, which tends to magnify the darkness of the shadow on top of the bit where you are looking trying to see the screw. The attached pic demonstrates the shadow effect, although this was taken in a well lit garage so the effect is not as pronounced in the photo, but I think you can get the idea. It’s tough to see anything of the top of the bit or screw in darker areas. Makita needs to adopt the three light setup around the face of the tool. Last gripe has to do with the fwd/rev selector switch, which is a standard type switch that you push from right to left for forward and vice versa for reverse. The switch is like butter, which normally would be a good thing. As long as you are running the drill in forward the switch is fine, but I find when I have the drill in reverse the selector switch rides right where my trigger finger wants to ride and with that buttery selector switch, there is a tendency to inadvertantly move the switch to the netural positon or to the forward position as you manipulate the tool. This is a great set for the money, but if I did a lot of work in dark areas the light would be a deal breaker for me, you just can’t see anything without addtional light on the work. If you work in well lit areas or only occasionally work in dark areas it will be fine. The selector switch is something that I will get used to in time. These two gripes warrant the 4 star rating.

XT333X1 - True Review
This was purchased during the 2018 Black Friday Deal and it came with x4 BL1850 batteries (separate packaging) I have been using this kit for over a year now and it has standed to everything I could have expected. Pros: Durability, Brushless, Power, Quite, Lightweight, different options of batteries Cons: Only a single bay charger - obviously this is a stretch for the price but being that this comes with x6 batteries but only 1 charger port makes swapping out batteries more important and having to take breaks to charge the batteries is a little annoying. XDT13Z This is the workhorse for me doing any driving and screwing things in. It has multiple speed and is the most important tool in the bag XPH12Z This does wonders with out stopping. Ive cut up to 4" holes with this thing with ease. XSH03Z - This cut wood and plywood with ease, I have not cut anything else using this saw so I cannot review it on other matierals but could not image that having another blade would make much of a difference. DC18RC Only bad part is it comes with a single bay charger. I would recommend this to anyone that is interested in a Makita kit. This is a brushless line at a brushed price.

This saw works really well. It is lightweight and easy to operate with either hand since you can easily see where the blade contacts the wood from either side. I wondered if it would have enough power but it really cuts fast and clean. Also I doesn't seem to be as loud, when cutting, as my big corded circular saw. I got it in a kit with a battery and charger. The battery that came with it and the batteries from my other Makita LXT star tools all work interchangeably without problems or modifications. Its already been knocked off the bench on to the ground (outside) a few times and has not suffered any damage not even a crack. Along with this saw, there is a 20yr old 12V Makita drill driver in the attached image that still works! That's even after being dropped on the concrete from 8ft up several times. No, it is not compatible with the LXT star tools.
