Product Overview

Makita, a pioneer in brushless motor technology and battery innovation, combines both in the 18V X2 LXT (36V) Lithium-Ion Brushless Rear Handle 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw (XSR01PT). It's powered by two 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries for maximum performance and has an electronically controlled BL Brushless motor that matches torque and RPM to the application. Makita 18V X2 means freedom from the cord, even for demanding applications like cutting sheet and dimensional lumber that traditionally called for a corded saw. Best of all, users can remain in one battery platform, using the same fast-charging 18V batteries with the XSR01PT as they use across the expansive Makita 18V LXT cordless tool series. The XSR01PT has a long list of features for efficient cutting without the cord. Users of leading corded saws will appreciate the blade-left rear-handle design. The electronically controlled brushless motor delivers a full 5,100 RPM for efficient cutting. In internal testing, the XSR01PT made up to 558 crosscuts per charge in 2x4 SPF lumber using two fully-charged 5.0Ah batteries. Added features include a large 2-9/16 in. cutting capacity at 90 ° that will cut 3X lumber in a single pass, and an electric brake for maximum productivity. The saw has a die-cast magnesium base and blade guard with die-cast aluminum blade cover and motor housing, which combines durability with less weight (only 12.4 lbs. with batteries).
  • Powered by two LXT batteries; X2 LXT technology delivers more power, speed and run time without the hassles of a cord
  • Makita built electronically controlled BL Motor delivers 5,100 RPM for maximum performance and 50% longer run time per charge
  • BL brushless motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the BL motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life
  • Automatic speed change technology adjusts cutting speed and torque during cut for optimum performance
  • X2 LXT technology delivers up to 558 cross cuts per charge in 2x4 SPF lumber and up to 291 crosscuts per charge in 2x10 SPF lumber using the two 5.0Ah batteries
  • Large 2-9/16° cutting capacity at 90°; cuts 3x material in a single pass
  • Electric brake for maximum productivity
  • 0° - 53° bevel capacity with positive stops at 22.5°, 45°, and 53°
  • Die-cast magnesium base and blade guard along with a die-cast aluminum blade cover and motor housing provide a lightweight, durable design
  • Compact and ergonomic design at only 17-1/2 in. long
  • Weighs only 12.4 lbs. with batteries for reduced operator fatigue
  • Ideal for framers, formers, builders, roofers, and more
  • Retractable, extra-wide tool hook secures the tool when not in use
  • Built-in tether notch (tether sold separately)
  • Rubberized soft grip handle provides increased comfort on the job
  • Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) is engineered for improved dust and water resistance for operation in harsh conditions
  • 3-stage L.E.D. gauges on the tool indicate battery charge levels

The is very good, has a lot of power and is easy to handle.

This is listed as a worm drive. Is that correct?

Asked by Pedram February 6, 2021

Answers

It is a rear handle worm gear style circular saw, but technically it is a hypoid drive. Makita’s hypoid drive design produces more than ample torque, and along with higher grade internals, it dismisses the need for oil changes.

Is there a rip guide for this saw and is it possible to hook up a hose for dust collection?

Asked by Jon December 30, 2020

Answers

I can confirm Makita's comment that there is a one inch hold for dust collection on the front side of the casing. It is really hard to find without being told its there, which I assume is why other answers say its not. There's a rubber plug in it.

Could not pass up the HD special deal on this one. Saw plus FOUR 5Ah batts and double-charger for $249. Incredible price that seduced me into buying both the rear-handle and sidewinder versions. Kept the RH and returned the sidewinder once I came to my senses. I've only used sidewinders and 18V cordless before this one, so this was an eye-opener in couple ways. (1) RH saw is more intuitive for righties, and it tracks and is much easier to control on longer rip cuts. (2) 36V motor is game changer - really does feel and sound like 15A corded power in hand. Batteries seem to last forever too. Main complaint re this saw is it does NOT have light or laser guide. Its made for pros. Really miss that rookie-assist feature on my little Ryobi. Otherwise this is a sweet and strong power tool. Cornerstone of my Makita 18V collection.

I am a Contractor, I purchased the rear handle saw by mistake. My intention was to purchase the top handle version of saws. With that said best mistake I made. This rear handle saw has a lot power, effortless cutting. I can cut 3 sheet of 3/4 in plywood at the same time so that really help with production. Yes the saw is a bit heavy but I feel the extra weight help with the performance of the saw. This saw has replaced the other saw I had on the truck,, it is a work horse period.

I'm sure the saw is fine but I'm annoyed
Makita and HD need to clarify their language on this current promotion. I was under the impression I was purchasing a "kit" that comes with 2 batteries but receive an additional 2 battery pack for a total of four...today, I received my order with only 2 batteries included total. I spoke with customer service and although the rep was very nice, she did not want to acknowledge the additional 2 battery pack selection that is so clearly marked on this page that it comes as a separate drop-down menu! The promo page on Makita's website clearly communicates a "2 + 2" deal as well. I almost never leave negative reviews like this but I truly feel like this is willfully misleading. A slightly less misleading (but still sketchy) way to market this would be to update the promo to show that you are purchasing (1) saw with (1) bag and (1) charger and receiving (2) batteries for free. Of course, this is no different from the regular, every-day "kit" but at least it is an accurate representation of what is actually being sold. The way it is currently listed leads customers to believe they are receiving all of the above PLUS another 2-pack of batteries.

The Rear handle saw is great, especially like that it has the rafter hook,I also got the sidewinder model also, great saw just wish they would have put a rafter hook on it,but I'll just have to order one, both of them are excellent saws.

great saw.....
It is overall a great saw but it did bot come with a rip guide so the was dissapointing but not a deal breaker. I got it for $299 and it is very balanced but is not he lightest thing . It is way light than my corded saw though. It is kinda hard to get the charger, saw and the batteries in the bag it is possible but kinda frustrating. Overall a awesome saw

This is the first battery powered saw I have owned that cuts like a worm drive. All the controls are easy to operate, not a fan of the safety button but it is easy to engage. Still binds a bit ripping or cutting long angles but overall it is a beast. Saves time as well, not having to roll out a cord

18-Volt X2 LXT 5.0Ah Lithium-Ion (36-Volt) Brushless Cordless Rear Handle 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw Kit Wow, this saw is totally awesome. Makita out did themselves on this. This saw comes with two 5Ahr 18V Batteries and the charger is a high speed double slot charger. These batteries give the saw plenty of power. As you can see in the video, the saw slices through wood perfectly. It is also light weight. It is also spinning a 7 ¼ inch blade. That is plenty of blade to go through 2x4 studs as the video shows. I also had to cut some ceiling plywood down and it was so easy with this saw. I set the blade depth to ¼ inch and it held its depth and due to its light weight, I easily sliced the ceiling. If you are looking for a great present for that builder in your family, this delivers. This kit also comes with a durable canvas bag. It easily fits the saw and room for accessories. Charging speed was fast, around 20 to 30 minutes, but I forgot to time it. It has the mitter settings and wire fold out stand. I couldn’t be happier. This is probably my favorite tool now. Yes, I recommend it.

I bought this saw to cut in a roof, all I joist rafters and Micro lam beams. I was very impressed with the power I think i only ran it down once, no problem just popped in a fresh set of batteries. I liked the oversized hook which was easy to open. The depth gauge and miter gauge also operated smoothly. I hate the safety on the trigger, I will probably take it off , I mean come on ,if i am pushing the trigger I want to cut something. Your first trip up the ladder without dragging a cord and you will be sold.

MAKITA does it agan, fabulous. Positives first. Cordless saws have been around a while but this is the best I have ever used and the first time using a 2 handed saw. It is a beast at just over 11 pounds that makes it difficult to use one handed. All the warnings state to use both hands, one on each handle. I am used to sawing a 2x4 by holding it in one hand and the saw in the other. It can be done with this saw but you need a strong wrist. They claim you can cut 558 2x4's on a full charge. I imagine that depends on the material and your saw blade. Treated wood and composite materials like Trex may take more power. Their blade is thin and makes an .080" wide cut, 3/32 is .092" which helps reduce power consumption.. The depth settings are right on the button and so are the “0” and 45 stops and are easy to lock and unlock and you can set the torque needed to lock them. The batteries have individual charge indicators built in and there is also a charge indicator built into the top handle for a quick check during use. Motor is soft start with a fast auto brake. The blade is super easy to change by setting saw upside down on its handles. The blade lock is easily reached then and no balancing act is required. There is an effective hanger bar that folds out of the way but that needs lifted to access batteries. The carry bag has lots of pockets, 4 inside and 6 outside and there are 2 heavy duty ‘D’ rings on opposite corners to hang small items from or to use a shoulder carry strap which is NOT included. That is my first negative, no shoulder strap included. The carry bag is nice and large but there is no way possible to carry the saw in the fully retracted blade protected mode. I tried straight up and sideways, the bag just will not close. If you drop the bag hard it could easily damage the blade guard and blade. Cut in peace my friend.
