A regenerative braking system would add a lot more cost and complexity to the unit. The disc brake works extremely well and is a simple mechanism. Glad it's configured the way it is.

Just purchased this item. It did not come with the barrel???????

Easy to assemble and use. A little slow. Battery life good. climbs fairly steep if you keep weight forward. Doubt I will ever use lights. Serious problem I had was front tire flatted about the third time I used it -- broke the bead likely due to under inflation -- and very difficult to get remounted -- tire shops would not work on it unless wheel off of unit which was not possible due to wiring ( I called Makita service they said pop it back on bead and inflate -- easier said than done). I finally got it back on with a ratcheting strap tightened around circumference and a lot of soapy water. Bottom line is be sure tire is inflated properly every time before using. Mine evidently came under inflated.

Haven't used the wheelbarrow much yet, but took it for a test drive and it's going to be great. 2 reasons for the 4 star rating instead of 5. First, even in the faster forward speed, it's pretty slow. I would have preferred that the faster speed be speed 1 and have a slightly brisket speed as speed 2 for traveling across flat ground with normal loads as I want to walk faster than the wheelbarrow will propel itself. I doubt I'll ever use the slow forward speed. Second reason is that the alignment of the dump latch isn't perfect. I have to pull the bucket to the side a little as I'm latching it to get it to line up and draw down and latch. It doesn't look like there's any adjustment for this, so it's the frame that holds the bucket that's a little tweaked, but will be OK. The other one I considered was the YardPro gasoline one with tracks, but selected the Makita over that for 3 reasons. 1. I owned one of the large manual wheelbarrows with the 2 front wheels in the past and it was great for moving lots of weight on flat ground but when trying to traverse a hill on an angle was impossible as it always wanted to tip over. The Makita with the single front driven wheel allows you to do this by lifting the rear handles and angling the wheelbarrow to keep the load level and balanced. You can't do this with the dual track YardPro. 2. The dual track has to spin the tracks opposite rwch other to turn or spin one track and skid that other. We use our wheelbarrows to pick up sticks and spread mulch around the yard so some of the driving is done on the lawn and didn't want to damage the grass when turning. 3. Though I tend to prefer gas powered working machines so they can work as long as I want to, the Makita was quite a bit less expensive than the YardPro and leaving a gas engine running while spreading pitchforks of mulch then moving a little, etc would be more disturbing to the neighbors. Overall, I think this will be great for my intended purpose for it. Even used it to move the large Santa sleigh from the front porch down to the storage room down a long steep driveway, where the disc brake worked great.

Purchased in December 2019. No surprise that Makita engineers did another exceptional job with this product. Well thought out engineering and quality materials. A tough price point. Without batteries, the purchase price point was $900. In my opinion, without batteries should be $600 - $700.
