What's the difference between an oil impulse driver and a impact driver?
So much more softer when drilling, but also still has the power to drive.

Where is this tool made?
This is one of the few Makita tools made in Japan. Amazing quality workmanship, I wish they made a updated model. Still a great tool and by far the quietest
The two I've owned (early introduction and one about 3 weeks ago) were both made in Japan. I have Makita tools made mostly in Japan, but some in the US and some from China. Unlike some manufacturers, there does not seem to be much difference in quality. Been using Makita almost everyday for over 25 years, have yet the wear any out, though the Lithium ones get the most use as they are much lighter and I am pushing 80.
Please be advised that all of the Makita corporation's manufacturing centers around the world are held to the same Quality Criteria regardless of location. The XST01Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Oil-Impulse 3-Speed Impact Driver, Tool Only is made in Japan.

Can I use this with the 2.0 amp compact batteries as I prefer and does that affect the operability of the tool -power
The XST01 will work with my older 1.5AHr batteries, so I think it will also work with your newer 2.0AHr batteries. I'm not aware of a Makita well-stated policy of battery compatibility.
The Amp rating is based on the expected run time capacity of the battery. The Makita 4.0 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery (BL1840) has a longer run time than the Makita 2.0 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery.
Yes you can as long as its an 18 volt. The issue will be your use time. Won't be as long as the bigger ah batteries.
In short... YES, you can use it, (assuming the 2 amp batt is an 18volt compatible Makita tool battery) and NO, it, won't cause any problems with the tool.. You will lose run time, nothing more. The power (voltage and amperage) output delivered to the tool remains so the same across the battery line, from 2, 3 or 4 amp. NOTE, some Makita tools will not work with lower amperage batteries, due to the need for more power, longer, i.e., the Reciprocating saw will not accommodate the 2 amp batts (as one example).
