This doesn't have the power of a corded sander, nor did I expect it to, but it's surprisingly capable and fantastic for small and/or outdoor jobs where it would be a real PITA to drag out a long extension cord.
A good example is shown in the photo, sanding a dry rot repair patch on my eves.

I bought this because I have four 5 ah batteries from my Makita track saw (a special where they included two extra batteries). I already have corded sanders that I'm happy with but thought I'd give this sander a try as the price was reasonable. So, onto my impressions.
The great:
-My 5 ah batteries can run this all day long. I've never had this run out of battery power during use. Since I have four of these batteries I'll just swap them out just in case it might run low but in my usage I've never had to swap due to low battery.
The good:
-Ergonomics. Easy to hold, well balanced.
-Sound levels are on the quieter side.
The neutral:
-Power not up to corded versions. However, it's good enough to function for medium removal with 80 to 120 grit paper and works great for higher grit finishing work.
The bad:
-Dust collection is lacking. During operation I'll see dust leaking out from where the bag connects with the sander. Overall, this is not that big of a deal for me as I bought a big 42" Home Depot drum fan to cool my hot and humid garage and that blows any small wood dust away from me during a working session.
Bottom line:
I find myself grabbing this over my two corded Bosch sanders for most small sanding jobs. It's quicker and easier to use and has enough power to get most jobs done. If I have a big surface I go for my big 6" Bosch corded. It also can fit into the rotation as the sander that keeps the 120-220 grit paper on it so each sander can have a unique job. If like me and you have a surplus of Makita batteries then this is a great use for them.

Get the largest battery for this if you want to use it for more than 10 minutes! With the large battery, this is a fantastic tool! Variable speed, dust bag, powerful sanding. I have the corded version and prefer this one hands down! The added weight of the large battery gives way for even pressure sanding without arm fatigue! I’m a contractor: this was purchased for a rehab project of 5 large bay windows with poorly painted copper roofing . The sander removed layers of paint paint beautifully without damage to Copper! Also provided excellent prep on the wood frames section of the windows. The finished product looks like new construction without all the tough hand sanding! It’s a Very versatile tool and no cord made ladder work a breeze and much safer! I wish I had this tool sooner!

quickly became one of my favorite tools
I am a production trim carpenter, i have been using this router for round overs, morticing in strikes, i cut grooves in pocket doors, and used it to chamfer mdf to match v groove paneling. This this has plenty of power, runs smooth, and runs for a long time. I plan on buying a few more so i can leave them set up with different bits
