A:  For close quarters drilling is superb! I put together a steel building kit that required very tight drilling of 20 ga. tempered steel, I was hight up on a ladder and had to hold it by the drill head to exert enough pressure to drill 5/16 holes thru 2 plates, was very pleasantly surprised of its performance. As far as automotive mechanic work, bear in mind it is not to take the place of a Heavy Duty impact driver to loosen and torque large bolts and nuts. For drilling bigger holes, start with a smaller size pilot and follow with whatever size you require and apply lube to the bit. Hope this will be of help. JM
