Makita 18-Volt lithium-ion is the worlds largest cordless tool line-up powered by 18-Volt lithium-ion slide-style battery. At the heart of the LXT Series are the 18-Volt LXT lithium-ion battery and the efficient Rapid Optimum Charger. The new 18-Volt lithium-ion dual port rapid optimum charger (DC18RD) charges 2 batteries simultaneously, giving tool users unparalleled charging efficiency so their batteries spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. The 18-Volt Dual Port Rapid Optimum Charger offers key advantages for Makita 18-Volt lithium-ion cordless tool users. The exclusive built-in fan cools the battery by forcing air through the battery's air vents during the charging process for faster charging. The charger communicates with the battery's built-in chip throughout the charging process to optimize battery life by actively controlling current, voltage and temperature. The result is category-leading charge times: two 18-Volt Compact lithium-ion 2.0 Ah batteries in only 25-minutes; two 18-Volt LXT lithium-ion 3.0 Ah batteries in only 30-minutes; two 18-Volt LXT lithium-ion 4.0 Ah batteries in only 40-minutes; two 18-Volt LXT lithium-ion 5.0 Ah batteries in only 45-minutes.

Q:I just bought one and the bottom slide is smooth but the top one moves in jumps as if there are notches in the slides with a spring loaded retaining ball holding it. Pretty hard to push sometimes. Anyone else have this happening? Is this on purpose?

Answer This Question
A:Â Added note: Only the model saw with ?S02? in the model number is AWS capable. This question is below a saw model ?S01? which is NOT AWS capable. The manufacturer?s answer to this question refers to S02, not the S01. My prior comment applies to S02.

A:Â It has AWS capability, but you have to spend $80 for chip to go into saw AND $180 for adapter to attach to your extractor, because AWS will not otherwise communicate with non-Makita extractors!

This Saws a beast. As long as you're gonna use it, don't use anything less than 5 amp hour batteries. It's a great saw!
Built a loafing shed with it and a cordless makita jigsaw. I couldn't be happier.

Bit of disappointed quality from Makita, received with damaged bent wing nut that locks slider bar. Has no damage to outer box or inner packing materials, I guess/assumed that damage were occurred at factory.

What a beautiful saw!
The build quality was amazing. Sadly, I meant to order the 12" version and accidentally ordered this instead. HD accepted the return without any drama as I had not used the saw at all. However, my experience on the 12" model has left me speechless. It was mostly perfect out of the box. I just needed to adjust a couple of things for calibration. I also did not realize how much of a positive difference the lack of a wire would mean.

this is a well-balanced tool and superior to the single battery model which I already owned. Would love to see a metal shoe instead of plastic the depth and angle adjustment are easily accessed. I do like the rafter hook.

Makita really went above and beyond when they designed this beast. Fist off, it's buikt like a tank. Everything is made from magnesium and cast aluminum except the casing, sobit will take a lot of abuse.
It comes with a 24 tooth blade that rips wood like nothing at all. The cuts are always smooth and straight. The added weight of this saw really helps you control it well when cutting.
The seph adjustment is easy to adjust, but I really love the bevel adjustments on this saw. They added a secondary positive stop knobs that allows you to automatically stop at 22.5 degrees or 45 degrees without needing to look at the marks every time.
It needs to run off of two batteries at the same time, but the 5.0 last a very long time. It even has double battery indicator lights on the top of the saw to show you how much more juice you still have.
As for the rear handle, I like these much better than the did wonders as the are more comfortable to use, and are not as wide.
I will say that there is a slower build up of power going to the blade than what you would find in an electric saw, but only takes a second to get the full rpm up. This even has a self adjusting motor that will increase power on its own when needed. This should help you save on battery usage.
There were a few things that really got to me about this buy. The first is that they give you no bag to keep this in. Makita is usually good about this, but not this time. Another is the saw can take an edge guide, but again Makita did not include it (really Makita??) And the third is there is no place in the saw to store the blade removal wrench. Many other saws, especially in this range has an onboard wrench storage slot.
Other than Makita cheating out a bit on accessories, the saw is just plain awesome.
