Product Overview

Makita is a pioneer in brushless motor engineering, battery technology, and miter saw innovation and has combined this expertise in the 18V X2 (36V) LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 10" Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw. It's powered by two 18V Lithium-Ion batteries for 36V power and performance, but without leaving the 18V LXT platform. Makita brushless motors are engineered for up to 50% longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The XSL06 has an efficient BL Brushless Motor that delivers up to 4,400 RPM for fast and efficient cutting, with Automatic Speed Change technology to adjust cutting speed and torque under load for optimum performance. The XSL06 has a unique 2-steel rail sliding system design that offers single slide-glide operation for smooth and dead-on accurate cutting right out of the box, as well as a reduced overall footprint that allows the saw to be positioned flush against a wall. The innovative direct-drive gearbox and guard system is engineered for increased vertical cutting capacity (5-1/4") and crown molding cutting capacity (6-5/8" nested), the largest in its class. It will also crosscut a 4x12 at 90 degrees. The saw miters 0° to 60° left and right, with positive stops at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45° and 60° (left or right). The bevel lock is located in the front of the saw for easy access and quick adjustments from 0° to 48° (left and right). This Promotion also comes with a bonus AF506 Pneumatic 18-Gauge, 2 in. Well made, but not for fine work
I’m not a carpenter, just a DIYer who likes good quality tools for my projects. I bought this Makita to replace an ancient Ryobi that had some blade wobble. I'd read all the troubling reviews of the corded version (1019L), but didn’t see the same issues in reviews of this unit, despite that it is apparently identical in ever way except the saw motor and batteries. I attributed this to a different production line, tweak made with the cordless model, or better packaging that prevented damage in shipment. If you need this for rough work it’s great. It's solid and seems very well made. Plunge cuts are smooth and the motor has plenty of power. 45 degree miters were dead on out of the box; didn't try bevel cuts. It feels like a quality tool. Unfortunately, the problem with sliding cuts that occurs on the 1019L also happens on this unit. Long cuts are cupped - just slightly, but enough to see when holding up to the light with a straight edge. This is the same problem that is widely reported with the 1019L. It's just noticeable, but I think unacceptable for this level of tool. As you can see in the attached images, the cut isn’t straight. By comparison, my old Ryobi cut the line straight, but blade wobble created a notching pattern. People have theorized that these units are getting bent in shipment. The unit is packaged in a single-wall cardboard box. There are some cardboard pieces to hold things in check, but no styrofoam or straps to prevent movement. Worse, the base of the box is taped to the walls with a single layer of packing tape. Makes it easy to unpack, but another point of failure. The packaging seems wholly inadequate for a 60 pound saw. There's a fix, but it involves loosening the bolts and twisting the sliders slightly until you get it straight - a lot of trial and error. I didn't do this, as I didn't want to break anything. So back it went to Home Depot. Whether it's due to bad design or poor packaging that allows the unit to get damaged in shipment, I don't know. Ultimately, it seems the Makita sliders are hit or miss and I missed.

    Great Deal
Purchased this saw to install trim around the house. My old saw worked fine but could not handle 5 1/4 inch trim against fence. This saw was a timer saver. Was square out of the box. Sliding rail is extremely smooth. One of the best features is the electric brake. Blade stops as soon as you release trigger. Minimizes tear out. Got 2 free 5 amp hour batteries on top of battery kit so you can’t beat this deal. This Makita is solid.

This Makita saw is fantastic. Easy to adjust tilt and angles and makes very precise cuts. I have been using Makita miter saws for 15 years and this is my first battery powered saw. It can keep up with my older Makita plug in compound sliding miter saw without question. It is very well designed and built to perform. Very satisfied with this saw.

      Its a Makita Saw
Excellent miter saw. Sliding mechanism was smooth. The clamp works very well. Battery gauge on the saw does not match the battery gauge on the batteries but it’s not a big deal for me. All in all, being that this is my first miter saw kit for only $285, no other saw beats the price and quality.

The saw is amazing and a pleasure to use. Smooth operation and very precise cutting. My only complaint would be the miter table is very stiff and difficult to adjust miters. Not sure if the saw is defective or that's the way it is. Also has the same power as my other electric saw. I'm waiting for Makita to make a 36 volt air compressor please don't make me buy the yellow or orange one.

Awesome saw. The power it provides from two batteries is nothing short of amazing. It cuts easily with no strain on the user. Battery power obviously greatly increases its portability for the job site and beyond. It is relatively heavy so you’ll want a sturdy spot to use it on or get the same branded saw stand to increase portability and support. Honestly the hardest thing about the initial setup was installing the saw blade. You must use the included Allen wrench which although conveniently stored in the saw is somewhat hidden beneath the bevel angle adjustment knob. Then although well described, loosening the reverse-handed socket bolt from the flange required adding a long metal tube onto the Allen wrench in order to increase leverage (subsequent use was as expected). The instructions will then step you through the processes of ensuring you set the blade to maximum cutting depth and positioning the kerf boards to reduce board tear out. The kerfs are made of plastic so be sure not to place them completely flush to the sides of the blade; the blade may have flared tips that will shred through the kerf boards. You may also need to adjust them depending on the angle of your bevel. Another problem I had with setup is the dust exhaust; mine did not have a notch cutout to allow the fastener to fully slide on (I had to finish the cut on the plastic); also the dust bag is the same size input as the output and so cannot attach. The exhaust however does attach well to a shop vac or dust extractor which when used allow me essentially dustless tasking. The attached cutting fence has a quickly removable upper half that needs to be taken off in order to make steeper bevel cuts. These fence portions can then be temporarily stored on the side work supports. Both bevel and miter angle changes are well demonstrated by fixed markings. The miter also has set notches that are supposed to provide a “positive stop” for even faster changes between angles. The notches on mine however aren’t quite wide enough such that the adjuster still slides past. Just need to look at the numbers instead. Overall though my complaints are very minor compared to the performance of the tool and I don’t feel they warrant the removal of any stars for my rating. After a quick learning curve, adjustments can be made easily on the fly with great results. Dust extraction is great.

This has become my favorite go-to saw. So, when I first received the saw and stand, being it was battery powered I wasn't sure it would have enough power to rival my previous miter saw. Not only did it have as much power as my other saw, I think it actually had more. On my first used I was cutting 2x4s and it sliced through them like a hot knife through butter. The reason I wanted to upgrade to this saw I was looking for the sliding option so I could cut larger boards.

        a battery powered beast!
Ive been wanting a professional grade cordless miter saw for a while... I’ve looked at the big yellow brand... the guys in red... and team orange too... they all make good saws... team orange has the best battery replacement warranty ... but they only have a small cordless miter... the red team has a decent looking saw... but I’ve not had much luck with battery life from them.... the yellow monster was just to big and bulky for me... This saw is big.. but not to big...its solid ... its quiet and cuts fast and smooth! The batteries last all day and when they finally do need charging... it only takes 45 minutes!

A battery powered beast. Big in every way, and since this is battery powered, I would have thought it would be more lightweight, but for a 12 inch sliding saw, it has almost twice as much metal in the base than my older 10 inch sliding saw. Again, with the battery, I would think this would be a lightweight meant for travel to the job site, but I don't see any skimping on the design. Of course this does mean moving it around it not to be done 'lightly'. But if you don't have power at a site, this sure beats getting a generator line run. All the moving parts are a bit over greased, and will be sure to collect saw dust. So either use the included dust bag, or a shop vac. There is an added dust pickup behind the blade, and the rubber hood does have to fold over the fence. It is not removable, so get used to it. The batteries quickly charged in about 20 minutes out of the box, and after a month of casual use (about a fifty cuts) still shows a full charge. The bevel is quick to set with just a ratchet knob and release button, so tool free, quick to set, and holds the setting very well. The Allen wrench is stored on-board for removal of the blade, and make sure to seat the blade inside the rear metal guide bracket. The manual sucks and pictures are few. The tool still caters to right handers for the actual safety switch and operation and makes it awkward to change hands, so still some room for improvement in my opinion. I would also like to see a power line adapter box that can be used when line power is available. The laser guide did not come centered out of the box and was off by 1/8 to the left. Otherwise a very well designed tool that I recommend.
