I use all Makita tools and want to buy this nailer. What is the best Makita compressor to use?
Asked by: shopboy
If you are simply using it for hobby/craft purposes; most any small 100 PSI compressor with a regulator will do. I have a cheap off brand compressor in my basement that will kick on every 20 minutes or so simply due to leaks. I have to shoot a lot of nails in a row to get down to my compressors trigger point. I don't think you need a monster compressor for this like a large framing gun might require. This unit is the typical commercial quality you expect and enjoy with Makita tools. Wish I had bought mine years ago and surprised how many odd jobs where it's come in handy.

Customer Reviews

2 in. x 18-Gauge Brad Nailer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A step up from your typical brad nailer I find you can typically expect Makita tools to be a step up from the competition in terms of comfort, feel, performance and durability - and this tool is no exception. So far I have tested it with 3 different size nails and it performed well. One note worth mentioning was that the actual regulated air compressor pressure changed nail depth more than the adjustment dial above the trigger on the actual gun. Just make sure you have enough regulated pressure coming out of the compressor and then dial in the exact depth on the gun's dial. I shot nails into pine, oak, maple, and poplar with no issues. The gun is constructed of top notch metals and materials for what I anticipate to be a long and productive lifespan. The Makita blue and aluminum finishes make this tool stand out compared to my other ugly yellow and black nailers, and also help for reduced weight. I really like the feel of this gun and glad I went with Makita. Now I'm interested to see how some of the larger Makita guns feel and perform.

The 18-gauge size helps to avoid splitting delicate wood trim pieces where a 16 gauge might be too thick. I used a variety of 1 1/2 and 2" brads for putting up a room of molding and trim. No jams and the nailer worked flawlessly for well over 100 brads. However, when changing sizes several test brads where needed to adjust the depth. Once dialed-in for the specific length, it was consistent. This is my first Makita product and I'm pleased with the operation and build quality. It has a rugged but lightweight feel, and it operates very smoothly. Does what it was designed to do - drive 18 gauge brads - very well. The nailer takes very little air volume to operate. I set my regulator at 90 psi and my Husky 30 gallon compressor only cycled on once during the entire project. The case and included items (safety glasses and oil) were appreciated. However, there are no sample brads included in this kit. A few samples to test the nailer would have been appreciated. This is a minor point, but other similar nailers I've purchased (Husky framing nailer and Ryobi 16 gauge Airstrike) included samples. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Makita 18 gauge brad nailer.

I have used it for trim around the house and I have used it to build 2 cabinets for a 11 1/2 computer desk. I doesn't matter if you are a home DIY user or a contractor, there is nothing this Makita Brad Nailer can't handle in it's line of work and can't take as punishment. I was turned on to Makita by my uncle who owns 2 construction companies and Makita is his personal choice, he rarely had problems and when he did, Makita fixed it. I have tried other Brands and Makita is without a doubt a very strong name for lasting tools. I've pushed 1", 1 1/2, 1 3/4 and 2" nails through this gun, different brands as well and only time I had a problem was because I misjudged nail placement of other nails in a corner and the nail from the gun disabled the gun by not allowing the nail to fully exit. My own fault, besides that, flawless operations. At the time of writing this, I am 37 and started in construction/home repairs back when I was 16. I've played with many tools and for me, I couldn't be more happy with this Makita Brad Nailer. Pro's- - Handles 5/8" to 2" Nails - Handles Punishment - Ease of Use - Easy to fix with the quick release - Easy to clean Con's - None that I found yet.
