My old Makita (DCS540) finally gave up the oil pump after 19 years, so I treated myself to a new saw.
Broke it in on a 24" red oak, and it went through the large sections in about 25 seconds each.

Very powerful and oem chain is the best one I've ever got with a saw. I ordered two skip chains also to cut a 38" round ash and the makita put the other guys 455 rancher to shame, revs faster, with very little bogging compared to the 455 (both saws running 20" bar and new Oregon skip chains)

I'm sure it's a great saw however when I got it and went to assemble it the chain tensioner broke. Put the chain and bar on and when using the little screw driver supplied the tensior snapped in 2 as soon as I got the chain was about to tighten up. Upon inspection it's a very flimsy peice. Looked online for a new one and it's already been discontinued and replaced with a new part number. Hopefully that one is stronger.

1st day, took a few hours to get it running. 2cd day, couldn’t get it to run at all. Day 3, took quite a while to get it running, was sputtering and the chain didn’t stop moving even at idle. Paying hired hands to fiddle with a brand new chain saw? No tks

The first time I used it the oil hole in the bar plugged up with sawdust and wouldn't oil the chain. Cleaned it out and plugged up again after a couple of cuts. Called Makita tech support, explained the problem, they said they would get back to me. Tech called back 2 hrs. later and told me he discussed the problem with 3 other techs with 30 yrs. experience and they never heard of such a thing, and I was on my own! Sent e-mail to Makita and explained the problem and what I was told by tech support. Some one called me the same day and said they would get to the bottom of the problem. Next day, Friday, someone from Makita's shop called and we had a good discussion about the problem and I was told they would call me back on Monday, that was 3 weeks ago! Since that time I went over the saw and found that the oil pickup line in the tank was stuck with the end in the top part of the tank where it would only pickup a little oil before sucking air! Used the saw again and it oiled fine but then the engine developed a high speed miss! That was enough for me and I took the saw back! NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER!

I think this is an incredible value for anyone who needs a solid chainsaw. I only have about 6 hours on it so far but I can tell you I absolutely love it. Starts up easy every time, the bar oil adjustments are easy-to-use, it sits fuel but still has plenty of torque. I couldn't get it to bog down in oak or cedars. I did get a 16 inch lightweight bar for it to for limbing and firewood and I like it even more like that.
