.3/8" Semi-Chisel Chain 72 Drive Links .050 Gauge. Stamped Dolmar, made in the USA tho. Bar seems to be made by Oregon for Makita, but, not 100% sure.

Amazing quality, German Mfg. saw; starts on second pull almost always, lots of power, simple controls … the 60cc class is just less sensitive to temp/pressure / alt. then the 50cc - with a smalll weight gain. Not sure why Makita does not market a longer bar for this saw - its a Husky Small mount pattern - easy to find bars in the 24, 26” range.

Makita 20 in. 61 cc Gas Chainsaw
Bought this over a year ago through Home Depot because I was having trouble with my 17-yr old Husky. More saw than I needed but I wanted to feel some power again like I had in my long-retired 60cc 041 Farm Boss. This Makita (formerly Dolmar) saw is made in Germany and exudes quality, starts easily with spring assist and is unstopable with the 20 in bar, more power by far than the 041. There are a lot of good saws in this cc range, but the pro models are quite a bit more expensive and the consumer models are not a match for quality in my opinion. I couldn't find any local dealers when I purchased it so service could be an issue for some, but I've always fixed my own saws, and Makita has the parts. Love this saw!

So far this saw has been nothing less than spectacular . We had a wind storm go thru our area a couple weeks ago and the tree service people were leaving 10 to 12 foot lengths of red oak out by the street . A lot of these were 18 to 22 inch rounds and this saw ran thru them like butter . Big difference between my 40cc Stihl and this 61cc beauty . Cant go wrong if you decide on a Makita 20 in 61 cc saw.

poor packaging its a beast
It showed up in the makita box with no overbox so opened up the box and there is a chain saw laying in there not packed good at all for ups or fedex delivery. Wouldnt start very easy but figured out Inwas pullimg to hard. That compression technology must have a sweet spot for a light pull. After second tree cut it would not shutoff noticed a wire hangout it was the common side of the promoted all in one choke run switch. Seems like they should just keep to the tried and true dolmar design. I think its a solid foundation for a saw and will be returning this one as who knows what else got tossed around in the poor packaging. I will get another one as this has really nice power cuts well and starts well. Wont buy stihl and not a husqvarna fan so its this or echo for me. Between the japanese ownership and the german factory it should be mechanically sound. They just need to improve that funky switch. Hopefully the replacement is better and if not I think I understand its theory of operation and will just make it work post warranty. Pretty much anything you buy these days quality is poor as the shareolders and executive royalty continue to extract value out of good companies
