Would it be easy to cut 2 feet long of 1 inch thick Oak with this?

Asked by Howie July 22, 2018

Thank you for your question. You could make this cut, but it would consume several blades and it would be extremely slow. I would recommend using a circular or reciprocating saw for this job.

ARE ALL MAKITA BATTERIES INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THIS MULTITOOL?

As long as they are 18 volt. There were some earlier makita tools that used 12 volt batteries.

There's a light that turns on indicating that the battery is low. There is not a light for illuminating what you're cutting.

Will it it cut large galvanize screws

I'm sure it will if you have the proper blade for it. You won't be able to cut it with a blade designed for wood obviously. I use mine to often flush cut large nails.

Does it come with straight guide or any other accessories?

The box contains: Spanner Wrench (781011-1) Spanner Wrench (781039-9) Straight Guide (122965-7) Template Guide (343577-5) Box doesnt contain: 1/4" Collect 3/8" Collect Dust Nozzle

is this a hammer drill also or just a regular drill?

It is not a hammer drill. It is both a regular drill and driver for screws, etc. I've used the Compact (slightly larger) driver/drill to drive roofing screws. I prefer to use my Makita driver for things like 1/4" lag screws.

Can I buy a case for this tool?

Please look into the Makita Interlocking cases which are available on Homedepot.com. The model #s are; 197212-5 (15-1/2 in. Large Interlocking Case) , 197213-3 (15-1/2 in. X-Large Interlocking Case).

Do the Makita Tool adapters cover a wide range of other types of blades?

It uses the starlock blades that are becoming the norm. You can use most of the blades that are out there in the market now. Doesn't matter who makes the blades.

How does this compare to the corded version? Any data to compare power, noise, vibration?

Asked by Laser June 21, 2019

Answers

Never used a corded version of this type tool. I can say my battery powered one makes it easy to take from chore to chore without dealing with a power cord. The power, for me, is more than adequate. It is noisy and sounds like a very loud angry hornet when it's running. I have to use ear protection. Vibration does not seem to be an issue. It's surprisingly smooth for me anyway. That alone makes it worth the price for my purposes. Of course, your budget and results may vary.

Couldn’t recommend the 5.0 Ah batteries more. Although they are heavier- suck it up, it builds muscle ;). I love that I can count on the quick charge time and how long each battery lasts. Depending what tool, I can go 2-4 hours on one battery using constantly. I now have three of them and watch for deals. I couldn’t be happier.

Combine this multi tool with a 5Amp Battery and it will not let you down! HIGHLY recommend and will absolutely buy again if mine ever breaks. I use this daily for work, cutting subfloor, drywall, and other miscellaneous things for work and I always know I can count on my multi-tool. Easy to use. Easy to understand. Has six different power modes set in the side- super easy to learn. I love it.

After the $150 sticker shock for this battery subsided, I have been completely satisfied with its longevity while using it to drive deck screws. Lasted a solid 6 hours with continuous use and the charger had it ready to go again in roughly 30 minutes. Highly recommend!

This doesn't have the power of a corded sander, nor did I expect it to, but it's surprisingly capable and fantastic for small and/or outdoor jobs where it would be a real PITA to drag out a long extension cord. A good example is shown in the photo, sanding a dry rot repair patch on my eves.

I bought this because I have four 5 ah batteries from my Makita track saw (a special where they included two extra batteries). I already have corded sanders that I'm happy with but thought I'd give this sander a try as the price was reasonable. So, onto my impressions. The great: -My 5 ah batteries can run this all day long. I've never had this run out of battery power during use. Since I have four of these batteries I'll just swap them out just in case it might run low but in my usage I've never had to swap due to low battery. The good: -Ergonomics. Easy to hold, well balanced. -Sound levels are on the quieter side. The neutral: -Power not up to corded versions. However, it's good enough to function for medium removal with 80 to 120 grit paper and works great for higher grit finishing work. The bad: -Dust collection is lacking. During operation I'll see dust leaking out from where the bag connects with the sander. Overall, this is not that big of a deal for me as I bought a big 42" Home Depot drum fan to cool my hot and humid garage and that blows any small wood dust away from me during a working session. Bottom line: I find myself grabbing this over my two corded Bosch sanders for most small sanding jobs. It's quicker and easier to use and has enough power to get most jobs done. If I have a big surface I go for my big 6" Bosch corded. It also can fit into the rotation as the sander that keeps the 120-220 grit paper on it so each sander can have a unique job. If like me and you have a surplus of Makita batteries then this is a great use for them.
