      Q:can these floors be sanded
      by|Jan 6, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  The thickness is the minimum required to sand. With the texture of this floor not being flat, I would say no. Not a professional, but I have this flooring.

Q:Does this floor work with radiant heating?
        by|Nov 3, 2022
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  RADIANT HEAT (HARDWOOD FLOORING): Yes, please follow the guidelines in the Installation Guide attached to each product listing page under Info & Guides. Radiant Heat Systems • The radiant heat system must have been tested and in operation for a few weeks prior to installation. • The radiant heating system needs to be turned off prior to installation and the floor needs to be close to room temperature 65 to 75 degrees. If the radiant heat pipes are visible or exposed in the subfloor, you must cover them with 3/8” plywood to spread heat more evenly. • After the flooring is installed, slowly raise the temperature to the preferred comfort level (over at least a 5 day timeframe) beginning two days after installation or at the onset of colder weather conditions. • The radiant heat system must be controlled and the surface temperature of the flooring must never be allowed to exceed 85°F. • Proper relative humidity must be maintained within your home at all times during the year. For best results and to minimize seasonal gaps keep indoor humidity between 30% to 50% RH. If you are in an arid part of the USA or Canada, it is especially imperative that you use a humidifying system to maintain this moisture in the air. • Forced air heating system also can dry out the air inside your house much more than you might imagine, so use of a Relative Humidity meter(Hygrometer) is recommended to ensure you know when you must use a humidifier to keep the relative humidity above 30%. • Even when these guidelines are followed it is still possible that your flooring may experience some cracks (seasonal checking) on the plank surface and/or gapping between planks due to slight shrinkage, which are not covered by the products limited warranty.

          won't last
At 18 months the finish is gone in areas of traffic, we're 4 adults living in the house/no small children. The wood grain looks darker where the finish is gone, as if dirt got into it, however is not dirt. I have tried to clean these dark areas unsuccessfully. I now have most of these areas covered with rugs, other areas are getting deteriorated as well. One picture shows the area of least traffic looking ok, if you zoom into the planks you'll see cracks and deterioration starting to happen.

Both Malibu Wide Plank and the Home Depot 100% Stand behind the quality of our Hardwood Flooring. Hardwood Flooring is extremely durable, easy to maintain, and an excellent investment in your home.
Hardwood Flooring is natural, sustainable, renewable and recyclable and the flooring of choice among the majority of homeowners. All of our floors are sealed with 7 layers of the latest super low gloss urethane finish with aluminum oxide, providing protection from everyday wear and all backed by a Lifetime Residential Finish & 5 Year Commercial Warranty. For immediate assistance and troubleshooting please call our Home Depot Technical Services department @ 800-928-6168, customer service department at 650-416-7300. - Hard Surface flooring needs to be maintained properly
          - All Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Collections are extremely easy to clean, easy to maintain. Attached to each product listing page under info & guides is the "Use & Care Manual". In Daily Maintenance please see below: Daily Maintenance 1. Sweep dust mop or vacuum your floor regularly to remove any particles that could cause abrasion or scratch your floor. CAUTION: Vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head can damage a floor and should never be used. 2.Apply appropriate cleaning solution to the cleaning cloth / mop. Use a cleaner specifically manufactured for hardwood flooring such as Bona Hardwood Cleaner.
          - Additional Care for Handcrafted, Handscraped, Distressed or Wirebrushed Floors Since the floor that you purchased has a unique design and character you want to make sue to keep the floors looking like new. There are several key factors to protect the look of these truly handcrafted floors. • Walk off mats and areas rugs at entryways and pivot points – i.e., Kitchen sink and work areas. • Vacuum the floors as often as needed. It is important to vacuum up the dirt and debris as opposed to using a wet microfiber mop. Vacuuming will remove the dirt from the surface where a damp microfiber mop simply will push or embed the dirt into the wirebrushed, handscraped and/or distressed areas. Over time wet cleaning as such can discolor the floors making them look dirty. Additionally, the use of Microfiber mops can catch on the edges of the planks and may damage the planks requiring repair – avoid the use of these type of mops. • In the event the floors do show some discolor due to dirt build up consult a wood flooring professional who has the proper tools and equipment to thoroughly clean the floors. We recommend the use of a buffer in combination with a Tampico brush. A Tampico brush is a stiff natural brush typically made from Hog’s hair and will help to restore the floors appearance by removing embedded dirt and debris from the distressed areas. JasonMWP
            Smooth installation
We chose to float the sunset hickory malibu wide plank. We had a particle board underlayment which was the reason for floating the floor. We used the traffic master underlayment and the floor seems quiet enough. If you haven't had dark flooring be prepared to see more dust particles but the saw blade cut is a great option to hide a little dirt.

              Love These Floors!
These floors are as beautiful as I had hoped, and my contractor even said they were his favorite engineered hardwoods he had installed. I love the varying lengths and widths of the planks, and the way the floor feels underfoot is great. Highly recommend!

My husband and I searched for months to find the perfect floor for our new mid-century modern home and settled on the hickory crescent flooring and love it! The color varies, so you’ll get a mixture of light tan, browns and reds/brown. The look of each board also varies making it so exciting to open each box...you never know what you'll pull out next! There are some pieces that are a little too rustic/cabin looking for us, but we just pull those out and set them aside to use in our closets or areas that will be mostly covered like under our bed. We've also noticed that the boards take on a different look in day light vs. evening light. Keep this in mind when you're looking at your samples. I would highly recommend ordering 3-5 boxes to see how the colors vary before ordering an entire floor. If you like it, move forward with the order, if you don't you can return the boxes. As for installation, we are installing this floor ourselves with some guidance from a contractor at the beginning of the project and at certain points throughout the house. It's a large project and ease of installation probably depends on how much experience you have and how easy your room is to work with. If you have a square room with no obstructions, I would say this is fairly easy. if you have a room with obstructions to work around, I would say it's more difficult. If you're a perfectionist like we are, a lot of time will go into planning the rows to make sure the color works and the seams don't line up with each other. With regard to the boards, they are very easy to connect, tap together and staple. It's more about having the tools and knowledge to do it right and making sure to leave an expansion gap around the entire space. Overall, we are very happy with the floors so far and would recommend these if you like this look!

Great product! Planks in box all useable with minimal warping. We did a glue down and had minimal issues with tongue and groove install. Rustic saw lined in wood are a plus.
