The entire Malibu Wide Plank Collection of Engineered & Solid Hardwood Flooring is extremely durable, easy to clean, easy to maintain, and a great investment in your home that will return your hard earned dollars in the long run over other flooring alternatives. Hardwood Flooring is natural, sustainable, renewable and recyclable and the flooring of choice among the majority of homeowners. Our suggestion is to select the REAL HARDWOOD Floor option vs a plastic floor designed to look like hardwood.

What T molding is used for the Malibu Wide Plank French Oak Rincon 3/8” Thick?

Asked by Inquisitive February 5, 2021
1
Answer

The previous molding supplier for all Malibu Wide Plank Moldings is no longer doing business with the Home Depot, and a new Molding Supplier "Roppe" is in process of onboarding all Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Coordinating moldings which should be online or available for Store Special Order by the end of April 2021. An alternative would be to purchase UNFINISHED White Oak Moldings, take a medium tone flooring plank to develop a custom stain that will coordinate with the flooring, then stain and finish the moldings as needed. Are you able to do a herringbone design with this floor? Thank you!

Asked by Niki January 12, 2021

Answers

Do not recommend a Herringbone install. That would be challenging as this is a locking floor and there are not left and right planks which are required for a Herringbone installation.

How thick is the veneer?

Asked by Heatherinsa January 9, 2021

Answer

This 3/8” Thick Locking Collection features a 1.2mm Thick Sliced Face Veneer mounted on an HDF Core, with a hardwood back veneer. High Density Fiberboard (HDF) is an engineered board produced from resin bonded wood fibers under high pressure and heat and provides excellent joint integrity when the Click and Lock Profile is milled on the sides and ends. The majority of Locking Hardwood flooring on the market is comprised of an HDF Core. This collection is also sealed with 7 layers of the latest super low gloss urethane finish with aluminum oxide, providing protection from everyday wear and tear. Hardwood Flooring is extremely durable, easy to maintain, and an excellent investment in your home.

Suggest taking a plank with the color range you are seeking to coordinate with, to your local Home Depot paint department and do a stain match/coordination with flooring planks you provide. French Oak Rincon does have a lot of gorgeous natural color variation so ensure you select a plank that will best coordinate with vast majority of flooring you have installed.

Asked by rchap October 12, 2020

Answer

There are four main surface textures for Hardwood Flooring. The most popular on trend surface texture on the market today is WireBrushed. Other surface textures include Smooth, Distressed or Hand-Scraped. * Wire-Brushed: This finish involves scraping the wood planks with a hard-bristled wire brush that pulls out the soft grain featured in the hardwood material. This process shows the natural beauty in your wood flooring. The amount of wire brushing can be categorized as Light, Medium, or Heavy. All Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Flooring would fall into the Light category. * Distressed: Distressed hardwoods are manufactured with a combination of wire-brush and saw marks that gives your flooring a rustic or reclaimed appeal while providing dimensional texture. * Smooth: Traditional Hardwoods are generally smooth. They don’t have any dimensional surface texture. Most of the Malibu Wide Plank Maples are categorized as Light WireBrushed however due to the Maple Species grain structure this brushing is very light and the overall visual can also appear much smoother then the wire brushing on a French Oak Or Hickory Species. * Handscraped: Handscraped hardwoods take on an aged, worn look, recreating an old-world look of craftsmanship that has much sought-after charm. The entire Malibu Wide Plank Collection of Engineered & Solid Hardwood Flooring is extremely durable, easy to clean, easy to maintain, and a great investment in your home, the fibers on your swiffer dry mop will not snag on your Malibu Hardwood Flooring.

Can this be installed over radiant heat?

Asked by Amanda September 30, 2020
1
Answer

RADIANT HEAT: Yes, please follow the guidelines in the Installation Guide attached to each product listing page under Info & Guides. Radiant Heat Systems • The radiant heat system must have been tested and in operation for a few weeks prior to installation. • The radiant heating system needs to be turned off prior to installation and the floor needs to be close to room temperature 65 to 75 degrees. If the radiant heat pipes are visible or exposed in the subfloor, you must cover them with 3/8” plywood to spread heat more evenly. • After the flooring is installed, slowly raise the temperature to the preferred comfort level (over at least a 5 day timeframe) beginning two days after installation or at the onset of colder weather conditions. • The radiant heat system must be controlled and the surface temperature of the flooring must never be allowed to exceed 85°F. • Proper relative humidity must be maintained within your home at all times during the year. For best results and to minimize seasonal gaps keep indoor humidity between 30% to 50% RH. If you are in an arid part of the USA or Canada, it is especially imperative that you use a humidifying system to maintain this moisture in the air. • Forced air heating system also can dry out the air inside your house much more than you might imagine, so use of a Relative Humidity meter(Hygrometer) is recommended to ensure you know when you must use a humidifier to keep the relative humidity above 30%. • Even when these guidelines are followed it is still possible that your flooring may experience some cracks (seasonal checking) on the plank surface and/or gapping between planks due to slight shrinkage, which are not covered by the products limited warranty.

Love this flooring!
We shopped around and looked at several retailers for vinyl, laminate and engineered hardwoods to replace 600 sq ft of carpet in our home. We choose the Malibu Wide Plank from Home Depot in the French Oak Mavericks and we love it! We are extremely pleased with the product and are now considering it extending it on into our master bedroom! My husband said it was easy to work with and he had no problems installing the flooring himself. We love our new floors and we highly recommend the Malibu Wide Plank engineered hardwood!

The Malibu Wide Plank French Oak Rincon is part of our WireBrushed Collection, which are sealed with 7 layers of the latest super low gloss (7-9% Gloss Level) urethane finish with aluminum oxide, providing protection from everyday wear, this is a Prefinished hardwood floor. The Surface Texture is Wire brushed which is the trending visual in the hardwood market. Brushed finishes are produced with a rotary steel wire brush that goes over the surface of the hardwood where this process removes grains and leaves the upper surface with a textured finish. The depth of the texture on our wire brushed collection is a light wire brushing meaning a small amount of surface texture. If you were seeking a full fill hardwood floor you would select a floor with a Smooth Finish which does not have a wire brushed visual. This collection features one of the best Click Lock systems available in the market today which has exceptional joint integrity when installed properly following the installation guidelines attached to each product listing page under info & Guides. A minimum of 70% of planks in each case will be full 47.6 in. lengths. An excellent way to make your product selection is to view our Room Scenes & photos attached to each product listing page, and also order a 5" x 7" Sample available for sale online. For assistance and troubleshooting please call our Home Depot Technical Services department @ 800-928-6168. JasonMWP
great flooring
putting in new floors in living room, dining room, and den...easy to install, looks great, really brightens up room compared to previous darker floor...wish the ends locked together a little more, but not that big of a deal, just make sure to tap each piece from end...would certainly recommend.

Very easily damaged. DO NOT BUY
From the first month we had these floors they started to get gouged by everyday things like pulling out a chair, dropping your iPhone, Vacuuming, etc. Not that vacuuming does anything because the grooves in the wood are so deep it collects every spec of dirt and never vacuumed or mops out. We paid a TON of money for these floors and they looked terrible after 6 months and now a year later we are considering replacing them. Just trash. See my photo with a new plank verse a year of normal wear.

The entire collection of Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Flooring is very durable, however If you look up the definition of Scratch resistant it essentially means that the product is able to withstand minor scratches. There are ways to prevent scratches on Hardwood Flooring by taking proper precautions to protect furniture and chair legs and feet with felt protectors. Moving heavy objects without a dolly and/or protective plywood beneath may cause damage to any type of flooring. Damage may also occur from spiked and/or high heels and pet claws. Falling objects can also dent or fracture any type of flooring. All Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Collections are extremely easy to clean, easy to maintain. Attached to each product listing page under info & guides is the "Use & Care Manual". In Daily Maintenance please see below: Daily Maintenance 1. Sweep dust mop or vacuum your floor regularly to remove any particles that could cause abrasion or scratch your floor. CAUTION: Vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head can damage a floor and should never be used. 2.Apply appropriate cleaning solution to the cleaning cloth / mop. Use a cleaner specifically manufactured for hardwood flooring. Do Not Use Water or Vinegar. Do NOT apply directly to the floor. • For tougher spots, use a higher concentration of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. • For extreme cases, a solution of nail polish remover (acetone) and distilled water can be used. HINT: For best results, clean the floor in the same direction of the planks. When the cleaning cloth/mop becomes soiled, rinse or replace it with a clean one. Following up with a clean, dry cloth will remove residual streak marks and spots. 3. Do NOT leave any amount of liquids (water, juice, soft drinks, spills, etc.) on the floor. Clean any wet spots immediately. 4. Do NOT use a steam cleaner. 5. Do NOT use a wet mop or douse floor with water or liquid cleaners. Liquid can seep between the cracks and cause moisture damage. 6. Do NOT use any cleaning agents containing wax, oil or polish. Left over residue will form a dull film. 7. Do NOT use steel wool or scouring powder which will scratch the floor. Branded or Off-the-shelf Floor Care Products • If none of the above are effective and you choose to use a store bought product, test the product in a non conspicuous area (i.e., closet, corner, or scrap pieces) for potential adverse side effects.
The entire Malibu Wide Plank Collection of Engineered & Solid Hardwood Flooring is extremely durable, easy to clean, easy to maintain, and a great investment in your home that will return your hard earned dollars in the long run over other flooring alternatives.
There are ways to prevent scratches on Hardwood Flooring by taking proper precautions to protect furniture and chair legs and feet with felt protectors. Scratching to any hard surface floor may occur if proper precautions are not taken, here are a few steps we suggest: Protect your floor when using a dolly for moving furniture or appliances. Never slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across the floor. • Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and other heavy objects. • Minimize abrasive material and dirt by placing mats on both sides of exterior doors and by using area rugs in high traffic areas • Use protective mats beneath rolling chairs and keep furniture casters clean. • Keep pets’ nails trimmed. • Remove shoes with cleats, spikes or exceptionally pointy heels before walking on the floor. We removed the carpet in 4 bedrooms and our contractor installed this flooring with high-quality Pergo underlayment about 3 months ago. We did a floating installation and did not glue the seams. The flooring feels nice and sturdy in most places but there are a few places where perhaps the floor underneath isn't perfectly level so it squeaks in just a few places. It is a true dark walnut with no red undertones. It is rustic yet sleek and looks high end. We have received many compliments on the flooring and especially the width which makes the bedrooms look larger and more grand. Shipping was excellent and we literally had no damage whatsoever. The boxes are heavy so be prepared to have help unloading them off the pallet. You need to acclimate the flooring in the rooms you plan to install the boards in, so plan for 2-3 days of acclimation to ensure the boards don't expand or shrink too much once installed. There are shorter planks in the box which we spaced out enough that they don't stand out. I love this flooring and hope it stands the test of time. Absolutely recommend for the price and value!

In April we installed this flooring in our LR. We liked it so much that two months later we installed it in our MBR and closet. Now we're considering the same flooring for two more bedrooms.

Exactly what we were looking for! Great Customer Service!
After a month of searching we found our perfect floor - Malibu Wide Plank French Oak Salt Creek 1/2 in. Thick x 7-1/2 in. Wide. We were striving for timeless, natural, Scandinavian look. We looked everywhere and bought at least a dozen of boxes of different flooring (defiantly recommend buying a box of the floor you’re considering vs relying on a small sample usually found in stores). This floor looks more “cohesive” / one color when looking at the entire room than what you can see in pictures. Being engineered hardwood it’s obviously a little harder to install than laminate but totally worth it! Also keep in mind each box has 5 different sizes and the design of the layout it’s all up to you. Finally, we had an amazing customer service experience at our local Home Depot. Crystal in Flooring Department Home Depot #0914 went above and beyond to assist us. Thank You!

Very happy with this flooring
I just finished renovating my condo and had this flooring installed throughout (except the bathrooms). It's exactly what I wanted - a light finish that brightens the space without being white. FYI the samples can be misleading because the one I received looked very white but I kept coming back to the pictures in the reviews here (which were very helpful) and made my decision based on what I saw there. There's a bit of variation so some sections look lighter or darker so it really depends on where your sample piece was cut from. Overall the look is great and makes the space feel bigger, brighter and more modern.

I absolutely LOVE this flooring! It's quality material and was easy to install. Had to replace 2 year old carpeting due to allergies. Used 6mm cork underlayment for more comfort, less noise, and it's hypoallergenic.

Purchasing these floors was by far one of the best decisions I have made. These floors are beautiful, feel amazing if you walk barefoot and I have heard nothing but amazing things from everyone who walks into my home. The only part about this experience that wasn't good had everything to do with home depot and their delivery and customer service or lack there of as well as the third party delivery vendor forgetting my order, loosing track of my order, calling a million times to get the order, and delivery being missed over and over again, but none the less, the floors are amazing once I got them. They look beautiful in the kitchen and seamlessly flow into the living room.
