How do you care and clean this floor

Asked by Me April 5, 2021

Answer

All Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Collections are extremely easy to clean, easy to maintain. Attached to each product listing page under info & guides is the "Use & Care Manual". In Daily Maintenance please see below: Daily Maintenance 1. Sweep dust mop or vacuum your floor regularly to remove any particles that could cause abrasion or scratch your floor. CAUTION: Vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head can damage a floor and should never be used. 2.Apply appropriate cleaning solution to the cleaning cloth / mop. Use a cleaner specifically manufactured for hardwood flooring. Do Not Use Water or Vinegar. Do NOT apply directly to the floor. • For tougher spots, use a higher concentration of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. • For extreme cases, a solution of nail polish remover (acetone) and distilled water can be used. HINT: For best results, clean the floor in the same direction of the planks. When the cleaning cloth/mop becomes soiled, rinse or replace it with a clean one. Following up with a clean, dry cloth will remove residual streak marks and spots. 3. Do NOT leave any amount of liquids (water, juice, soft drinks, spills, etc.) on the floor. Clean any wet spots immediately. 4. Do NOT use a steam cleaner. 5. Do NOT use a wet mop or douse floor with water or liquid cleaners. Liquid can seep between the cracks and cause moisture damage. 6. Do NOT use any cleaning agents containing wax, oil or polish. Left over residue will form a dull film. 7. Do NOT use steel wool or scouring powder which will scratch the floor. Branded or Off-the-shelf Floor Care Products • If none of the above are effective and you choose to use a store bought product, test the product in a non conspicuous area (i.e., closet, corner, or scrap pieces) for potential adverse side effects.

Answer

The Malibu Wide Plank 3/8" Locking is accurate on thickness. Do get a precise measurement use a micrometer which is a measuring instrument that can make extraordinarily precise measurements. Most micrometers are designed to measure within one one-thousandth of an inch. if you have an existing hard surface floor that is 3/8" Thick, a common transition used between two hard surface floors is a T-Mold.

The entire collection of Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Flooring is very durable, however If you look up the definition of Scratch resistant it essentially means that the product is able to withstand minor scratches. There are ways to prevent scratches on Hardwood Flooring by taking proper precautions to protect furniture and chair legs and feet with felt protectors. Moving heavy objects without a dolly and/or protective plywood beneath may cause damage to any type of flooring. Damage may also occur from spiked and/or high heels and pet claws. Falling objects can also dent or fracture any type of flooring.

what coordinating stair nose can be used with this?

Answer

The previous molding supplier for all Malibu Wide Plank Moldings is no longer doing business with the Home Depot, and a new Molding Supplier "Roppe" is in process of onboarding all Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Coordinating moldings which should be online or available for Store Special Order by the end of March 2021. An alternative would be to purchase UNFINISHED Maple Moldings, take a medium tone flooring plank to develop a custom stain that will coordinate with the flooring, then stain and finish the moldings as needed. Does this need to sit in the home to acclimate before installation? If so, for how long?

Asked by Elena November 18, 2020

Answer

Acclimation and In-service Conditions. Acclimation is the process of adjusting (conditioning) the moisture content of hardwood flooring to the environment in which it is expected to perform. The hardwood flooring is fully acclimated when its moisture content and dimensions (width and length) are stable. Engineered hardwood flooring typically does not need acclimation as long as the environment it is being installed in is fully acclimated. This means the HVAC system is fully operational and the home is being maintained in lived in conditions during and after the installation. If the temperature and relative humidity falls outside normal ranges of 60°F-80°F and relative humidity (RH) of 30%- 50% then the product must be acclimated for a minimum of 3 days or longer depending on conditions. To properly acclimate you must open boxes, open plastic wrap. Elevate cartons from the floor by placing them on 2”X 2” lumber or equivalence. Place spacers (3/4” to 1” sticks) between each layer or cross stack the layers for maximum exposure to ambient conditions. Acclimation temperature range is 60°F-80°F and relative humidity (RH) of 30%-50%. Conditions in which the floor was acclimated should be maintained continuously thereafter. Document as much acclimation information as possible below.

Beautiful Flooring for a Reasonable Price
This flooring turned out to be even better that we could have imagined! We love the look of the floor - it has a matte feel that looks luxurious and the details in the wood are beautiful. We would highly recommend the product not only for its looks but also for its value and how quick the company was to ship it. We had to special order the wood and 25 cases arrived after just a few days.

Ripped carpeting out of two bedrooms and installed the Malibu wide plank. Put it down over 1/4" cork and I'm very happy with the result. Really spiffed up the rooms. Simple to work with.

The flooring is even more beautiful in person! We didn’t order a small and based it off of reviews / product pictures. I don’t think if we ordered a sample we would have got this flooring but we went all in and ordered a pallet. This is literally the most beautiful flooring I have ever seen and I’m so glad we didn’t decide on a darker floor because this has a lot of variations of patterns and colors. We couldn’t be more than happy with this.

Great Value!
This flooring looks so much better in person than it does on the website. My flooring guy was able to install quickly with ease. Looks like some of the more expensive wood flooring. I highly recommend! I had it delivered to the store to save shipping. The HD guys brought it to my car and loaded it too!

Beautiful Flooring
We finished the space above our garage and turned it into a gym. We selected the Maple Cardiff flooring as it complemented the trim around the windows and gave the space a warm feel. We had the flooring installed and it went very smooth with no complaints. We installed it in February 2018 and we work out every day. I keep a broom and Bona mop handy for keeping the floors clean. We also installed wood blinds a few months after the flooring to protect the floors from any possible fading. We wanted a natural feel with the wood floors, blinds, and wood beams in the open ceiling. After almost 2 years and daily workouts, the floors still look brand new!

Beautiful flooring
We used Maple Pacifica in our living room and dining room and plan to use it in our hallway later. My husband said the installation was not difficult, although it took a bit to get the knack to fit the planks together. It looks beautiful, as if it has always been here. We chose a medium brown color. We installed felt on all of our furniture before returning it, so I hope we can prevent scratching. We would buy this again.

Very pretty flooring. I bought it for one bedroom but liked it so much I continued in another bedroom, bathroom, and sunroom for my cape cod home. Nice variations with color. My contractor said it was easy to install. The price was reasonable as well

Noisy
The appearance and variation of this floor is great! But it makes, what I would call, excessive creaking sounds. Our subfloor is good, no noise issues. We used quality underpayment. Going to set up an inspection with Home Depot. I did notice that two orders came from two separate locations- one from Vietnam and one from China. The lot from China seems much noisier than the lot from Vietnam. Appearance is equal (different boxes tho). Has anyone else notice this ?

Please call our Malibu Wide Plank Technical Hotline for assistance at 844-658-4700. As long as installation instructions and all install and subfloor requirements were followed, floor should not creak. When floating, the subfloor has to be flat to within 1/8" in a 6 ft span. If there is any deflection, then the floor may creak. JasonMWP

Our dishwasher overflowed and we had to replace our engineered wood floors. This turned out to be an excellent choice. It gives our standard condo box a modern feel. I can't speak to the installation--the contractor had to glue the joints and said it was a little more difficult--but the results are great. We love it. There is a lot of variation between boards and it's a lotta look, but if that's your cup of tea you won't go wrong.

I looked at hundreds of floors and saw this in the store, and couldn't find anything I liked as much. I wanted a real wood floor which was click due to cost and installation, but I liked the interesting grain and coloration of this floor. Each piece is truly unique. One of mine has a sword shaped knot. LOVE the variation. It is a truly modern aesthetic but still manages to be warm due to a pinkish hue. True to the claims, the wide plank delivers. I was able to lay and install 600 sqft of floor with a few people helping in a day. The finish work, trim etc, will take more time than the flooring. It's not difficult to install except for the strange cuts. I recommend having good tools (table saw, chop off and a good variable vibra-saw for ultra weird angle cuts when necessary). The only thing that bothered me is the wear/veneer layer I saw in the store was for the nail down version, this was more similar to other engineered floors in the price category. I did not have the time, money, or want to destroy what's underneath the floors so this was an excellent choice. Paired with DMX one step.
