I purchased 3 of the MSL 42 in. W Craft Space 8-Drawer Flat File Cabinet in Sequoia somewhat reluctantly after reading all the reviews. After 6 months is was clear I made a mistake in this very expensive purchase as all three units tops have warped over ¼ inch and the seams cracked. This is after I had used industrial wood glue all wood seams in addition to using fasters provided. I highly recommend not buying the units as the wood used is of extremely poor quality, soft wood and thin finish. The design is beautiful and they look great with the exception of the draw nobs (which can be easily replaced), but the materials used make this a disaster for anyone looking to store their artwork within a beautiful piece of furniture. To resolve the hideous warping tops, I spent another $500 and had custom marble tops made for each unit. These have lent stability to the piece as well as visually mitigating the warped tops. I would love to have my money back as well as what I had to spend to make these functional and pleasing visually. My advice again is don’t buy.

If you've done your homework, you've discovered that flat files (metal or wooden) don't come cheap, but this one is reasonably priced and well suits my purposes for storing posters, prints, and artwork. Because of complaints in other reviews about parts arriving damaged, I ordered it for pickup at my local Home Depot since I thought it would undergo less wear and tear in transit. It arrived quickly with only a few minor blemishes (from manufacture or packing, and quickly fixed with a Guardsman furniture repair kit ) and was easy to transport in a pickup with a friend's help, though I could have fit the boxes into my car in a pinch. Assembly with a friend was a bit challenging due to a confusing diagram in Step 4 (in which I managed to leave out a cam-lock), but we put it together in about three hours. It helped to lie the piece on the left and right side panels during assembly rather than to assemble it as shown. I had to substitute 3 1.25" 8 mm screws for the Q1 screws, which were too short to fasten the top panel to the adorning panel (Step 6). For drawer assembly, attach the knobs last so you can lie each drawer on its front panel if needed to assemble it. Inserting drawers into sliders was the most difficult step and required great patience and much trial and error to line up everything correctly. As was the case with another reviewer, I had a few ball bearings fall out during this step, but that doesn't seem to affect the drawer's functionality. All in all, this piece more than meets my needs and expectations, and despite some difficulty during assembly, it's well worth the time, money, and effort.

Absolute garbage. Had to order twice because the first one was damaged due to the super flimsy packaging. Boxes are rated for 65 pounds each and two of the 3 boxes weigh more than that. Box opening is on the bottom in the middle of the product so it is very difficult to open without flipping upside down, assuming it did not burst before it arrived. Second one had lots of warped wood pieces including the top. Had to have HD come pick it up and I'm now looking for something of better quality. The cam fasteners are screwed into plastic inserts in the wood. These pop out. One cam lock broke in two, there were no extras. The top had a 1/8" air gap on 3 corners due to warpage. Drawers are extremely difficult to open and close fully due to poorly designed hardware. The knobs popped off when opening drawers. Very, very low quality. Finish was terrible with some pieces having a rough sticky texture, knots in wood at surface were filled with a yellow waxy substance. Stay away. I am very comfortable with assembling furniture, but this product was just awful.

Assembly of this cabinet is not for the faint of heart! Delivered on a wooden palette sack of two 80-pound boxes and one 100-pound box. I assembled this behemoth alone with help of 48-inch pipe clamp. Took me (a "seasoned" citizen) about 12 hours over several days! See my videos Part 1, 2, and 3 starting with https://youtu.be/l45VvzaOqzY for summary of my build progress. Worth the effort! This is exactly what I wanted to store my watercolor paper, colored-pencil paper, bristol-board paper, and other drawing supplies (well, really I wanted a $3,000+ vintage map/document cabinet, but that's too expensive for my bank account).

I ordered the 42 in. W Craft Space 8-Drawer Flat-File Cabinet in Rhododendron Leaf and am delighted with the assembled item. I love the color! The directions were easy enough to follow. Pieces were accurately pre-drilled with guide holes to locate where screws and fasteners should be installed and all necessary hardware was included. The pieces are quite heavy, however, and several steps required two people for proper assembly...a lesson I learned the hard way when I tried to attach the back and side panels by myself, resulting in the back panels falling over before I could secure them and breaking the plastic grommets that support the cam-bolts. This is where being married to an engineer really helped: my husband determined that the local hardware store carried these parts and was able to replace the grommets. The only other problem I ran into was the width of the large drawers proved a bit too narrow to accurately open and close on the glides, and soon a few ball bearings were falling from the glides...never a good sign! My husband again came to my rescue by adding 3/4 x 1/8 inch fender washers under the screw heads that secured the drawer glides. (In this case, we added one washer under each screw on the left side and two washers on the right. Although this sounds as if it might make the drawers off-center a bit, this does not show.) Time will tell if this solves the problem, but for now all appears to be functioning perfectly!

Once built, great but the journey to get there is so very painful! This is a nice piece of furniture. The actual components are made of high quality materials. However, the hardware is made of very cheap material. A few of the cam locks broke during installation and we had to retrofit some cam locks that were left over from a previous, unrelated product. If their hardware is going to be so poorly made, they should at least provide extra parts. Additionally, the instructions are almost useless and very hard to follow. Putting this thing together is frustrating, takes a looooong time and whoever design the actual build of this furniture clearly doesn't have to put it together. It requires ridiculous, almost acrobatic moves, when securing the top of the piece. However, once built, it is very nicely designed and very useful.

This is a lovely piece of furniture and has served us well as the keeper of all of our nautical charts and maps. We love it. The only disappointment was the three enormous and heavy boxes and the extreme amount of time it took to put it together. It was worth it though!

I was SO excited for this piece & ended up SO disappointed. The instructions were terrible. By the time it was all said & done i can’t open use 2 of the drawers because 1 is too big for the slot & 1 has a broken knob (that I have to replace & it won’t match). I’d return if it wasn’t so heavy & bulky

Very sturdy. Happy with the amount of space inside. Assembly was difficult. Parts had wrong labels on them. Advanced assembly. Dealing with the cardboard and styrofoam was the worst part… but necessary I guess. 2 of my pieces have minor blemishes. I wish the drawer slides were higher quality.

One start is too much! I would have gladly taken something that qualified as one star over this complete waste of time. I would consider myself a more advanced assembler, considering I'm a mechanic, so I didn't pay any attention to the reviews that said it was hard to assemble... that was a mistake. This thing is so crooked, and so warped that it just flat doesn't fit together. We broke 5 cams trying to get the top down and it still didn't sit down flush, it finally pulled the plastic inserts out. Deciding, "oh well it kinda close" we pushed forward to the drawers. Well not much better there. They are so off center that the drag going in and out, and half of the knobs came apart the first time we pulled on them... Hope Home Depot will give us our $500 back, and not make me disassemble it. Absolute garbage.
