I have no vents on my soffits. The length is about 40-50 feet long. How many vents do I need, and how do I space them? I want to do this in conjunction with blowing more insulation in my attic.
Asked by: JCkazoo
The rule I heard was 1 sqft of vent per 150 sqft of attic, which includes intake and exhaust. Calculate your area and divide by 2 to figure your intake size needs. Divide that by the size of the vents and thats number of intake vents needed. Space them evenly along the soffit. Also make sure you dont block the vents when you add insultation.

What type of nails to uese installing the aluminum wave soffit vents? The sofit is made of masonite material .

Need size and type of nails that will be used in Masonite material.
Asked by: Slag
Use stainless steel screws not nails (of any kind) ..get Pan Heads or whatever head screw best fits the holes in the vents you have (some are flat, some are countersunk, even in the same order). Drill an undersized hole through the Masonite soffit at each corner to match the location of the holes in your vents. Undersized means you need to compare the shaft of the screws with the drill bits in your set and pick one that matches the shaft, not the larger threaded area. If you have a bit that is just one drill size small that is better yet. Then very, very, gently turn in the screws...do not drive them in hard or you will strip the hole out or chip off the corner of the soffit. Put the power drill down and use a real screw driver and your hand power. You just want to barely snug it down enough to hold the vent in place, not be replacing soffit boards all day. Hope the stuff I learned the hard way helps.

All were clogged. It was easier to replace them than try to clean them. We have attic fans that draw air through the vents probably 9mos of the yr so they should be checked/replaced more often. These were exact replacements, very affordable, and well-made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review after 2 years of use Got on my ladder to do some eave painting and checked on my vents installed almost 2 years ago. The screens on the vents were intact, so no bugs, but they were completely covered with dust. Had to unscrew the vents to get access, but no big deal. Not a maintenance-free item. Maybe why my attic fan burned out since no air coming in through vents.
