Q:I am venting an oven hood insert directly up through the roof. Is 5' the longest? Am I supposed to just get a few different lengths and tape them together to get the length I want?
    by|Jun 16, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  5" lengths ae the longest we manufacture. Check the installation instructions for the proper procedure on venting the hood. Typically the sections need to be screwed and sealed at all joints and seams, the local codes may vary. If you have any inquiries about Master Flow products please email warrantyllbp@gaf.com

Q:I’m venting a microwave. if I seal the joints with aluminum tape do I need some type of compound in addition?

        Answer This Question

A:  Depends on where the vent goes. If it is in an attic that gets cold you need a tape rated for the cold weather. Other wise a quality tape like a 324A Premium Foil or Foilmastic Sealant Duct Tape should work you still need 3 fasteners to a joint though.

        by|Jan 9, 2023

A:  no, tape is great for this. Make sure you don't use the cheap lowest grade stuff though as it will tear and leak, buy the higher end stuff(just a few more bucks) so you don't have to do it again

          by|Dec 4, 2022

A:  No, the aluminum tape should be sufficient to hold it in place.

            by|Dec 3, 2022

A:  It would depend on the local code. Always seal seams with building code approved sealant or duct tape

              by|Dec 2, 2022

A:  No. The aluminum tape should be more than adequate.

This product was purchased for an alternate use. I placed this 6 in. X 5 ft. section of duct pipe around my bird feeder pole to keep the squirrels out of the feeders. It works great for that purpose so far. The squirrels can't jump up 5 feet high, and nothing is close enough for them to climb and then jump to the feeders.

                    It's a duct!
As long as you're careful, you won't dent it or cut yourself. I recommend tucking one edge of the seam into the other an inch or so below the actual end of the pipe and then sliding it into place so the ends align. Makes it easier to snap together. For extra rigidity, you can always buy multiple shorter lengths and screw them together. Two 2 foot ducts are a bit more sturdy than a single 5 foot, but of course that may not fit depending on your project.
