Here's what the instruction manual says: "NEVER OPERATE THIS SMOKER UNDER ANY OVERHEAD CONSTRUCTION. MAINTAIN A MINUMUM DISTANCE OF 10 FEET FROM OVERHEAD CONSTRUCTION, WALLS OR RAILS." The unit doesn't get particularly hot (smoking at 225Fdegrees, that is) but it does put out smoke so keep that in mind with your enclosed overhead space.

The smoker was an Valentine's/anniversary gift for my husband, who loves it. Even though it's still chilly out, he made a stainless top table for it and smoked a chicken. Compact size but has two pretty good size racks. Perfect for couple, small family or vacation home. The cover fits great, too.

I've only used the smoker once so far and it seems like a decent unit. As expected with an analog temperature control, the temperature does vary maybe +/- 10 degrees but I would guess the actual temperature of the meat, or whatever you're smoking, stays relatively constant throughout the process. The unit is built quite nice, the racks are heavy duty and the welds are very good. For the "weekend" smoker, this unit is plenty big enough and doesn't take up much space for storage. I bought a digital thermometer (Taylor 808N-4L) with a probe and silicone-covered cable that easily fits through the damper slot. It makes monitoring the temp of the meat super easy and you don't have to keep opening the door.

Used it right out of the box. Made ribs and turkey breast. It was a hit, smoked the meat just as effectively as a much larger one. Easy to use. Will be taking it camping with us, great product!!! I bought my sons one for Christmas!!

The Masterbuilt Portable Electric Smoker is great. It delivered an excellent smoke taste to my two 8 + pounder pork butts. The only down side is that the door has to open to add more chips. In the Winter time, this allows the heat to escape and the smoker has to work at getting back up to temperature. I bought the carry bag. This will be great when traveling/storing in the Motorhome’s “basement”. A whole lot easier than the 30” electric smoker. Which, by the way, is also a Masterbuilt.
