Can you install on vinyl siding?

Answer

Hi there, When installing onto vinyl or metal siding: We recommend using plywood strapping (1”x4” plywood is suitable) in order to add strength and support. Step1) Attach the board to the siding where you would like your Window Box to sit than Step 2) Once the holes are pre-drilled, drill the brackets into place. Step 3) After the brackets are secure slide your new Window Box into place.

How are these installed against brick? Are any tools needed? Are they hard to install?

Answer

The screws supplied with our window boxes are only intended for mounting into wood/siding. When installing your window box to brick or concrete walls, masonry hardware/tapcons are recommended which do need to be purchased separately. You will need to pre-drill holes into the brick or concrete where the brackets will be placed. Then, once the holes are pre-drilled, you can drill the brackets into place. After securing the brackets, slide your window box into place.

The product is well constructed and what I expected given the online info that I found about the product. These come with 4 mounting brackets that are black and they clip in over the side of the top of the box and they contrast with the white box when installed. I was able to lightly sand & paint them white so they blend in with the box. They have two pre-drilled holes and come with screws (2" #8 not self-tapping) but I had to drill a new hole in the bracket as the lower hole did not align with my install location. It was easy to drill through the bracket. I purchased #10 self-tapping 2-1/2" #10 SS deck screws to install onto the side of Trex decking & wood framing.

Absolutely love this window box ! Only thing, husband had to put wood strips behind to attach to siding. They show on the sides. So, I'm going to have to figure something out to hide the wood.

I found the box was easy to hang, I did not use the recommended backing because my home is older and the sheathing is 3/4 pine boards. Be careful mounting the brackets, if not done correctly the box will tilt upward. Make sure they, or the backing to mount them to will span 2 courses at the lowest part of the siding to ensure level. I used the recommended plastic water bottles with potting soil and it worked out great. The part I like is that they can be removed/installed from the house with relative ease, but it's a two person operation once filled with water because of the weight. It's almost a perfect match to the vinyl siding I recently had installed and a nice finishing touch.
