Do you make this planter in 6foot size?

Asked by Chick January 20, 2021
1
Answer

Hi there, unfortunately we do not manufacture this planter in a 6ft size.

How are these installed against brick? Are any tools needed? Are they hard to install?

Asked by Charlotte September 9, 2020
1
Answer

The screws supplied with our window boxes are only intended for mounting into wood/siding. When installing your window box to brick or concrete walls, masonry hardware/tapcons are recommended which do need to be purchased separately. You will need to pre-drill holes into the brick or concrete where the brackets will be placed. Then, once the holes are pre-drilled, you can drill the brackets into place. After securing the brackets, slide your window box into place.

Are the white boxes paintable?

Asked by cetmaa August 24, 2020

Answer

We do not recommend painting your item Our products are manufactured from polyethylene, which is an oil-based plastic. We have found that paint typically does not adhere to it very well; it tends to peel and flake off over time. There is paint on the market that is called “Fusion for Plastic” made by Krylon, which some of our customers have used with success. If you do choose to paint your product, we recommend testing on a small unvisible portion before painting the entire product. Please be advised that painted products cannot be returned and that painting the product will also void the warranty.

Can you provide a time fame regarding the availability of more 2 ft. black window boxes? thanks

Asked by Kathy July 25, 2020

We are still manufacturing our planters in all styles and sizes. Due to the current circumstances of COVID19, we are experiencing inventory shortages and items will likely be out of stock for the next 2-3 weeks. We are making new items daily and as soon as we have more they will be available for purchase. Thank you for your patience and understanding in these difficult times, and if you have any other questions please let me know.

Hi Bill, thanks for bringing this to my attention. This is an error in the description. This window box is in fact 48" long. Thanks!

All of our products are rotationally molded using linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). Our planters are BPA free and are safe to plant edibles in!

Can this be attached to a deck railing? Or is there an accessory that would allow me to do that?

Asked by Charlie April 26, 2020

Answers

I would not attach this 3 ft. wide x 11.7 in. deep window box to suspend from a deck. It would look top-heavy. There are other boxes designed to sit on top of, or straddle, a deck railing.

Hold a lot of water
The boxes are beautiful and fairly easy to install (you will need an impact drill if mounting to brick). My only problem is that my flowers are SOGGY and WET all the time. We live in Kentucky and get normal rain and Im not watering if the soil is already damp/wet. It just NEVER drys out. May have to drill holes in the bottom to drain as I am in my second season of root rot in the boxes.

Response from Mayne Product ExpertJun 19, 2020
Thanks for the feedback and for purchasing Mayne Window Boxes. Our window boxes do have a pre-formed overflow drain hole that should allow excess water to drain from the boxes in order to keep your soil at a good moisture level. If you find the boxes are retaining too much water we suggest making sure that there is nothing blocking this drain hole by just poking a long stick or screwdriver inside the hole to clear any potential blockages. If your boxes are draining properly but you are still finding they are retaining more moisture than you would like you can drill an additional overflow drain hole in the back of the box approximately 2-3 inches up from the base. This will allow for additional drainage without compromising the built in reservoir system. For specific instructions on this method please reach out to our Customer Service team at customerservice@gomayne.com and we will be happy to provide them to you.

Great looking Beefy appliance. Had a lil trouble installing, due to the fact there were no direct instruction per type of siding. The screws provided seemed okay but I went with 4"deck screws just in case. because I have wood siding with a 2x1 runner in 16" sections I cut that part off where /i would be attaching the back board. I went with a 32" 6X1 and a 32" 4x1 to give me enough room for the entire bracket. I used a piece of tull wrapped in a pinwheel shape to fill the drain hole and use leftover white tissue paper to line the bottom. was worried the dirt might stain the house, so we will see.

The window boxes look great and replaced old rotten wood ones that had seen better days. Looking forward to having days that don't need to be painted but just washed up occasionally. My husband found them easy to install. Adds so much personality to the front of our home.

I purchased these window boxes in 2014. They have held up extremely well here in Michigan where we see extreme temperatures. I was concerned about fading in the sun, however, they still look as new as the day I bought them. I highly recommend these to add some curb appeal to your home.

Mind you, I just installed this lovely window box over the weekend, so I can't yet address how it actually performs (fingers crossed!). But I'm a woman of a certain age (widow) who was pretty darned intimidated about drilling into my stucco house -- but with a concrete bit for the pilot holes plus a chat with the helpful fellow at my local hardware store (Home Depot's too far from me), I had the confidence needed to tackle it. A couple key points. First, I still don't fully get how the self-watering feature works, nor do the instructions explain this. They do offer the option of drilling into the planter to access the water-holding element (it's a double-walled construction) -- I did NOT want to do that. The other thing is that, as I was Carefully measuring, the directions said the support brackets were 12" from center (e.g. one to the next). But it was a good thing I instead measured the unit itself as the indentations where the brackets snap into place do need to be spot on, and those were 16" apart on mine, not 12". So heads-up on that, folks... Happily, I got everything totally nailed on the first try. My 4' wide unit required 6 holes to be drilled total. BTW, for stucco, you have to drill the pilot hole with the afore-mentioned concrete bit into the stucco till you come through that layer and into, for my house, what is the layer of OSB behind it. That's what the screw actually connects to. I also used beefier screws I had on hand. It's a lovely addition to a bay window and can't wait until I can finish my landscaping on this side of the house, but for now it helped nicely dress it up. The unit is sturdy and appears well-made. Am hoping it'll chug right along year in and year out given its 15-yr. warranty. Now if I can just keep the deer here from treating it like the new salad bar in town!

Beautiful window boxes
We bought two 4ft Nantucket Window Box in White for 4 ft windows. Fast shipping and package very well. The window boxes came with instructions and black brackets. Everything was complete and it was easy installation on to the side of vinyl siding. Now they suggested a piece of wood screwed to the siding under the box we guess to make it level, initially did that but you could see the wood stick out from under the box so we took it off and it worked out fine the window box is level and looks great. We are extremely pleased with this product. We had a party and we had numerous amount of compliments on the window boxes.
