Questions & Answers

Can I decide how much water to fill the tub with on each cycle. Looking for washer where I decide how much water to use

Asked by: Rittie
Just bought this machine and you have to either let it sense the water for the load or choose deep fill. Was disappointed with letting it choose water level as I had clothes along the outer edge that did not get completely wet (I watched the entire cycle so it wasn't the spinning that 'dried, them). Water comes out and wets the clothes in the center, agitates, and repeats this. Can't imagine that clothes can be clean if they don't get wet or come in contact with soap. After several loads with the same result I now just choose deep fill. So much for saving water.

Yes you must use HE detergent. Almost all of the detergent available in stores now is HE. Look for the HE symbol.

4.7 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Top Load Washer with PowerWash Cycle in White is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1634.

I did a lot of research before this purchase and going back to an agitator was a must. Yes, water conservation laws have changed the way all washers are now designed but this machine offers greater control than most and I have been pleased with the results. Those reviews speaking of noise must be expecting a washer to be quiet, which is as silly as expecting it from a vacuum. This machine is far less noisier than others I have owned and if set up correctly (legs extended and balanced), runs and spins at very acceptable volumes. I highly recommend this washer if in the market for dependable and reliable at this price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Washer After weighing all of the choices and reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this washer. What a great purchase. I have utilized it for every type of load. Regardless of the setting, each load comes out clean and appropriately washed. The cycles are quiet and the completion signal is melodious. I utilized the deep fill feature for a large comforter but have not had a problem utilizing the water sensor for any size load. My previous washer was a front load washer which smelled disgusting no matter how many times I cleaned it and shredded clothes almost every load. This washer is fantastic. I highly recommend it and would purchase it again.

Each type cycle has its own quirks. Everything has to be sooo pre-set before locking mechanism clicks in, and requires turning off and starting all over if selected cycle does not work as expected, taking more time and electricity. After six weeks' usage, there is no "ease" of use and every cycle takes longer than old- fashioned 36 year old non-electronic Maytag, thus costing more in electricity, and certainly more in my time and energy. Do like the very large capacity tub. Handbook suggests leaving lid up to avoid smells; of course it would smell and grow mold if closed because water never leaves the soap and softener cups unless hand-emptied and wiped dry. Exceptionally disappointing product, an engineer's toy, very likely not designed by someone who actually does family laundry.

Normal wash can take up to an hour and a half and there should be no reason for that, it's a dribble of water and the clothes seem to just sit there with no agitation for long periods of time. what's the deal on all these 5 star ratings. The reason I purchased this was because of all the reviews so maybe I'm missing something. I noticed that the dispenser trays have water still in them after the wash which is inviting bacteria. I am sick about this purchase.

I do not feel this machine is "efficient" at all. I have to use the deep fill option on every setting. The only setting that seems to work somewhat well is the bedding setting. On other settings, if the load is even slightly heavy, it will not spin. On the delicate cycle there was soap residue necessitating the use of an additional rinse cycle. I just washed several shirts and blouses on the wrinkle control setting, deep fill with a second rinse and two shirts had dry spots and one still had a dirt smudge. The "auto sensing" feature is a waste of time. I do not need the machine to make the decisions about water depth, spin speed and water temperature. Cycles are long and the machine is noisy. It does a mediocre job at best.

I am on Home Depots website deciding if I want to buy a new washer but I'm not sure I can rely on these reviews. I purchased this Maytag washer in November, 2016. These glowing reviews are not true. This machine is very loud, shakes the floor when in spin cycle, does not fill on the deep fill cycle and above all, clothes get caught in the agitator. I have lost so many articles like shirts, sheets and this week it tore up a fabric shower curtain. I have made a formal complaint and a representive was sent to look at the problem. His diagnosis was that using bleach had weakened the fabric and therefore they tore. So you can use bleach with other machines but not this one. There was no reason offered for the colored clothes. Every week I lose something in this machine. I wanted a machine with an agitator and water level control. This Maytag was not the machine I expected. How about just a good old fashioned washer, does anyone make one?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Notes Before you Buy. Only had this washer a few weeks. Not sure why the law makers made it illegal to wash your clothes in a whole tub of water. Don't care what the manufacturers say about using 1 gallon of water and your clothes are clean. All the reviews of washers now, have many people stating otherwise. After searching the internet and reading so many reviews of washers, I could only find 2 that use water like we had growing up AND with an agitator. This maytag washer and a GE. The deep fill option is great. It actually covers the clothes with water and it truly gets the 14" of water the manufacturer states. The rinse cycle however does NOT with all but one of their cycles. You have to use the bedding cycle. We didn't find this out until the first time we used. I had to search quite a bit on line and found one review that mentioned it. The bedding cycle gives just about the 14" of water during the rinse. However, it adds quite a bit of time onto your washing cycle, an extra 30 minutes. So much for being efficient. We are an "old school washing" family. We don't add laundry detergent or fabric softener until the water is full in the tub . We have ruined clothes before. Some say the preload detergent and softner compartments are ok, but I don't want to chance it as it has not always worked out in the past. This washer may get some reviews of louder than normal noise. But it's a washer. It will be louder than any side loader that I have used at family members houses but is a lot more quiet than our older washing machines. Spin cycle is actually not that bad on the noise. As long as you're not trying to have a romantic dinner in your laundry room, you'll be fine. It does make a weird noise when it's draining the water, but nothing unusual when comparing to our washers of decades before. Only gave 4 stars because the lack of water for the rinse cycles other than the longest cycle setting, bedding. There is also NO rinse and spin cycle. I read you have to use the drain and spin cycle but add the extra rinse option. Oh how I miss those washing machines that I could manually dial back to the setting instead of all these preloaded options. Only been a few weeks but so far we are satisfied with our purchase and what is out in the market today. We'll see how long it lasts as nothing is made like they used to. One final comment: To all manufacturers, bring back our simple washers that fill the entire tub with water and uses an agitator.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sure do wish I had my old washer back. I was thrilled when my old washer died and I realized I got to get a new one with a much larger tub. If I had known then what I know now after using this machine for 3 months, I'd have spent any amount of money to fix my old one. How are you supposed to rinse clothes when there's only a small amount of water in the tub and about 4" of laundry sticking up above the water level? I watched the entire rinse cycle and (even after adding about 8 gallons of water carried from my kitchen sink) some of the clothes still didn't rotate down in the water. I've tried it both with the auto fill on and with it off and don't get enough rinse water on either setting. This machine also shakes like crazy when it's spinning and I almost always have to stop it (and wait for it to unlock the lid) and then redistribute the laundry. I rarely had that happen with my old machine. The only positive thing I can say is that it spins much more water out of the laundry than my old machine. That one positive thing isn't worth the price of this washer!
