Would this help soften up the caliche soil of Arizona (almost as hard as concrete)?

Would this help soften up the caliche soil of Arizona (almost as hard as concrete)?
Asked by: Samantha
Yes. I found it in Austin, Texas which has the same type of soil. I saw a house with clematis vines growing all over and I asked how it was possible. To a gallon of water, besides a tablespoon of Activator (I just pour in a "glunk), I add a couple of tablespoons of agricultural molasses, available at animal feed stores. I have been using it for 20 years, and have used it on all types of soils. and have lush landscapes ( a curse, because every seed that hits the soil germinates.) It builds up microorganisms in the soil, so it takes time. Think of seeing improvement next year, as you add some every couple of weeks when you water. It worked wonders on soil at a construction site, that had the water from cleaning concrete tools dumped in it. After a year, you could see the white stuff coming to top of the soil. The critters below just throw it up and out!

It is not "used on plants" like a fertilizer. It is a soil conditioner, so doesn't matter what the plant is. I use about a capful per gallon of water. It's effective over time- months, years- soil doesn't change overnight- so using more does not speed up the process.

How do you apply it?

How do you apply it?
Asked by: Kel
Use in watering can or hose sprayer. About a capful per gallon of water. It doesn't burn, but increases life in soil, so doesn't happen fast, but over time.

Ware there suggestions for temperature when applying? Will it burn grass if it’s applied when it is too hot outside?

Asked by: AQ
No. It has been used in the desert. Just follow directions on gallon. No need to waste it. Takes time to build up colonies of microorganism in soil, so don't expect immediate results.

1 gal. Soil Activator is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Multi-vitamin for your yard This product is very good for helping to establish beneficial microbe populations and correct soil problems. If you have heavy clay soil or pH problems, over time this product will help you. It is not a quick-fix product and is best used several times a year over the course of a couple years in addition to core aeration and compost or compost tea treatments. This product's purpose is to help break down compacted soil, correct pH issues, and feed microbes in the soil. In reference to the previous review, this is not compost tea. Compost tea contains beneficial microbes and a little bit of 'food' to sustain them until you get them in your yard - it may also have some of the same minerals this contains. The biggest difference is that this is food to feed the microbes you add with compost tea or compost. I have used this product successfully for a while, but you do not get the full impact from using this product alone.

Nowhere on the package does it say to shake well, but the liquid consistency varies from top to bottom. Close to the bottom lies some sediment, so beware. This sludge will block your sprayer and result in a slimy, smelly mess. Only bought this because of Randy Lemmon's endorsement, but I will be rethinking all of those now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My unbiased comment In my unhumble and ignorant opinion this might be snake oil. I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure. I don't know but I do know I would probably have better results if I got on my hands and knees and spoke directly to the lawn.

However, the directions should tell users to SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING since some ingredients tend to settle at the bottom.
