So cheap it can’t even open its own valves enough. Just a trickle comes out. Getting really tired of these big companies only offering direct-to-landfill products. Nothing lasts and now nothing even works. I bought two of these things too, both won’t even open up and let the water through.

This battery operated timer is very versatile as it allows for two separate hose connections for sprinklers or drip irrigation systems to be programed independent of each other. In addition there are four separate possible programs for each ‘zone’ in which days of the week; time of day; and length of watering time can be set. I hooked up the timer and it was easy to connect to my drip irrigation system and I did set it up for every other day watering and it is working great. It is saving me a lot of work. I am also able to hook a hose up to the other outlet and using the manual setting to wash the car.
The unit has great programming capability, because it is able to operate two irrigation zones with four different start and run time programs for each zone. However, this means that programing is not exactly simple. In addition, the instruction sheet is small as is the print, so it was difficult for me to follow when I was on my knees trying to read the screen while in direct sun. So, I recommend that you install the batteries; figure out what you want to water; what days you want to water; when you want to start watering; and how long you want to water. Then sit down in a comfortable place with good lighting and program the device, and only after it’s programmed install it on the faucet.

I've been using Melnor's first-generation "AquaTimer" 2-zone water time since August 2014, and it's been incredibly reliable, so I was excited to see what changes were in store for the new "AquaTimer 2". What I found was that it's a big improvement, while keeping the fundamentals intact.
Here are the areas where Melnor has improved the product:
(1) accessing manual control is as simple as pushing the dedicated manual button - no more hunting around in the menus.
(2) both Zone 1 and Zone 2 schedules are visible in the main display - they rotate through to show your next scheduled watering for both zones.
(3) you can schedule not just every day, every other day, or every third day, but also by day of the week. So for instance, if kids play in the yard on weekends and you don't to water at all those days, you can set M/W/F rather than every other day.
(4) you can water multiple times per day! Using the feature called "cycles", you can water up to four times per day.
(5) a battery display has been added. If my original Aquatimer is any indication, the two AA batteries (not included) will last at least 2 years. Note that you should bring it in during the cold months and remove the batteries to prolong its life.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the upgrade that this Melnor Aquatimer 2 offers, but thanks to the reliability of the original Aquatimer, I intend to move that to another faucet and have them both running. I expect many years of continued service from my two Aquatimers!

The 2-zone water timer can automatically water 2 separate areas of your yard with its Advanced 2-Zone Electronic Water Timer. Water can be selected up to 4 independent start times on each valve. Water on specific days of the week or every few days can be selected, depending on your watering needs. When you need to spray off the deck, wash the car or fill a bucket, place the water timer in the Manual mode which allows you to easily turn on the water whenever you need it. Each zone works like a separate timer, so the garden can be watered every morning while the lawn sprinkler comes on every few days. By purchasing the Melnor HydroLogic soil moisture sensor you can pause the watering schedule for up to 7-days, thereby saving water; the previous settings will automatically resume when the delay is over. I also use the water timer when I’m away from home and I need my potted plants watered. I placed them near each other and I connect a water sprinkler on one zone and set it for a 15 minute run time. Before I had the timer I needed a neighbor to drop by and water my plants which is not always practical. No more dead plants when I get home. It is very easy to program even for a non-techie just follow the instructions. The water timer requires 2 AA batteries which are not supplied. There is a battery indicator on the screen to tell you when the batteries need replacement.

After all danger of frost its time to set up the water timers. This dual timer will allow me to fill the geese pond and water the garden without having to choose. This timer is not as intuitive as other timers I have used meaning I had to read the directions. That said it is easy after you learn which buttons to press for what. The rubber button on the back did intrigue me but none of the manuals say what its for. I assume it's for the Meinor Hydrologic soil moisture sensor. I went to their web site and it gives confusing information for a different timer. None of the manuals give information on the rubber button.

Doesn’t last
This is my second one in 2 years. The one last year made it through the season with no issues. Disconnected for winter and followed directions to store but when spring came around it would not turn on with fresh batteries. So I bought another because it was affordable enough. This one I’ve had for 5 months and have had to reset the timer probably 20 times. It just goes back to the set time screen. Then last week the valves began to stick. I wouldn’t recommend this product.
