why does the flow of water from ports not stop when I turn the switch to manuel on the melnor timer?

what batteries does it take and how long do they last?

Asked by: sirmunk
2 AA's. I usually get about 6 months on a set of batteries. However, one of my 2 units was particular picky on the type of batteries; it would only turn on with Energizer, and did not like Duracell. Never knew why, but eventually the electrical unit died and the mechanical unit started leaking (out the top) after 2 years of use. Still feel like i got my money's worth running the unit 9 months out of the year for 2 years, so I am going to buy another unit.

can you water each zone at different times

Asked by: lou525
In my experience, no. Valves don't shut off as they are suppose to.

Has anyone noticed their sprinkler spray diminishing severely when the zones turn on when using this timer?

We have a newly seeded backyard that requires regular watering to start the new seed. Each zone on the timer hardly sprays, but when hooked up independent of the timer works just fine. Anyone else notice this issue or have this issue and discover a potential solution? We don't have a crazy setup. For example one zone is two impact sprinklers on a total of 75 feet of hose. Another is an oscillating sprinkler on 25 feet of hose.

Yes, I had significantly diminished pressure when I set mine up as well. The problem was actually two fold. 1. The valves had shifted while shipping and must have been in a partially open/closed position. I reset the valves by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then replacing them. My problem was improved, but not resolved with this. I have very high pressure at my home, and my sprinklers were still running at about 2/3 of normal. 2. Remove the filter screen from the grommet in the female adapter that attaches to your water spigot. Replace the grommet before you reattach the device to your spigot. Between these two, I have nearly full pressure back. Key word is nearly as the unit certainly restricts some level of flow.

Had about a month - bought two and they both work well. My favorite part is the yellow dials because they make it so easy to test with. Just turn the dial to manual and the sprinkler comes on. On the two zone type I also own, I have to go through the programming process to choose manual and also choose an amount of time. This is just on, then I can switch it off again by turning the dial back to timer.

Zone 3, on the other hand, does not shut off and I had to rig it with a 2 way hose valve in order for the product to not leak any water out on Zone 3. This was the only disappointment and complaint that I have on this device so far. Zone 1, 2, and 4 work properly and the zones turn on and off at the appropriate dates and times and the battery life seems to be pretty good as well. Now, if I were to get/receive another AquaTimer that works properly by having all the valves shut the water off, then I would definitely give this item 5 stars instead of 2 stars.

It is super easy to set up, works like a charm, and their customer service is amazing. Lesson learned from my first system - design some sort of protective cover for the display of the system as it will degrade due to UV exposure after several years of use. The need for this (and the system not having some sort of cover) is why I am only giving it 4 stars. I purchased a replacement when mine quit turning on my watering system. Note: the customer service at Melnor is phenomenal. I contacted them about the non-functional system and they express mailed a replacement system (after several years of use.)

To rig up a 5 sprinkler watering system for a newly seeded lawn, I connected this 4-port manifold and a Melnor 2-port manifold. This is for a vacation home, so the system needed to work with no onsite management. I've only had it working for about 2 weeks, but so far, so good. To set the times for the sprinkler to turn on, you need to hold down buttons to advance the clock to the time you want. It's a little cumbersome--would be easier if you could just enter the time on a keypad. Other than that, the set-up is easy and understandable. Since I've only had the unit for a few weeks, I can't speak about durability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 Zone sprinkler timer I like this product overall. I most like the manual knobs. One thing I don't like about timer is you cant set for a specific day. It does not have a weekly layout just only how often do you want to water. So if you say every other day then the day you set you would have to write it down and keep track because each week will be a different day. If this timer was like most and had M-F you could select what day and know for sure what days your watering. If you find that water comes out of zone while turned on during installation like it did me just pull battery out of unit for about a minute. This will reset system and now it will work properly.

Thought this would be a really good watering system but my experience proved otherwise. I purchased two of these online. One of the two were broke out of the box. The second one works but the timer for the zones is question able. I would set the start time for the zones and they would reset themselves for 2 - 4 hours later. Not every zone did this just zone 1 and 2. After letting it run a cycle and resetting, the system worked properly. The only thing that is nice about this system is the valves have a manual off/on which I like and is the biggest reason I bought it. The one I kept works ok now, but i would not recommend this product. I returned the defected one and bought one that Home Depot had in stock (+ $10).

My valve 2 won't close. I've only used it for 2 weeks. Came home from a weekend away to see my dripline area completely flooded because valve 2 and 3 were stuck open. Valve 3 has decided it can work again, but valve 2 remains locked open. The manual toggle does nothing on valve 2 now. Too bad since this seems to be the only affordable option with quality electronics. Make the valves as good as the electronics and I would give it 5 stars.
