Q:is this wood appropriate for making raised planters for vegetable beds?

    Answer This Question

A:  Absolutely, yes. We are using this lumber, along with clear cedar 2x6's for our raised vegetable beds. We don't have to worry about any preservatives leaking into the beds and contaminating the vegetables or us. A less expensive alternative is to use Trex (or similar) woods, but that lumber tends to be thinner (probably closer to 1x6), so it shouldn't be used in runs longer than 4 feet.

        Wife approved!
I purchased two bundles of this product to make two raised garden beds for my wife. I live in the eastern US and this is my first time buying redwood so I have no idea if the price of this item is good or not. The wood does contain some knots but then again it is labeled "Construction Common Redwood Lumber" so I was expecting it. Fortunately it was relative straight and easy to work with.

        NOT affordable
Advertised as affordable. This is really just 4 boards. Cost per 8' board $43+. Did not accept the order as I was expecting 16 boards. Those of you who got 16 boards consider yourself lucky. Going to order Cedar instead.

I don't know why this is written up in their ad as "Redwood is not only affordable, it adds great value to your home". There is absolutely nothing affordable at about 50 bucks a board . You'd spend a fortune doing a project that has any size to it.

Total rip off and very misleading.
I ordered multiple “four packs“ of these boards under the impression that there were 16 boards in each four pack. I verified this by talking to a Home Depot employee because the terminology is very confusing. When I received my product there were only four boards in each pack. This makes no financial sense. These boards sell for $11.57 each so why would anybody pay $136.87 or more for 4 boards. That equates to $34.22 per board. That is almost three times the cost of buying the boards individually. The whole reason to buy boards in a “pack“ is to save money. I called Home Depot.com six days ago and told them to come get these boards and give me a refund and I have yet to receive my promised call back for scheduling a pick up delivery. Not happy!

The quality of the wood was very poor. It had many deep gashes and marks. I spent 5 hours power sanding 36 boards and most boards still had one side that was not smooth. I will not be buying from them again.

It was a waste of time. It was advertised online 4 packs and for each pack contains 4 pieces. I ordered 2 packages expecting to get 32 pieces of lumber (4x4=16 each packages). I inquired in person at the local home depot. The manager was surpised but couldn’t order because online ads/order.
