Does anyone who has used this lantern tile have any pics of room they used it in?

      Answer This Question

Hi Jenny, Firstly, a contrasting vanity in black with this tile would probably look great! If you look under product reviews, there are lots of great customer photos showing this tile installed. Secondly, break strength is a bit of a misleading technical spec. It doesn't mean that any weight on top of an installed tile is its total weight limit. The break strength test for tile is conducted with weights on a piece of unsupported tile- one piece by itself, with no backing or flooring underneath it. Once you install the tile on a floor, you would factor in the substrate material's strength (i.e. cement board over concrete), plus the tile itself. So no need to worry about that 250 lb. specification- this tile is very durable and that test is not conducted in the same atmosphere as an installed tile. Claw-foot tubs, refrigerators, and washer/dryers are just some of the items that people have successfully installed in rooms with this as the floor tile. We know material specs can be a bit confusing and that you want accurate information to help you make the best decision for your project. We hope this was helpful!

I would not use these tiles for flooring. They're very thin.

        By|May 3, 2023

We just installed this tile as a kitchen backsplash, but we have 1970s "lantern" tile (obviously, not from HD) that's been on two bathroom floors for 40+ years w/o problems. It should be fine as a bathroom floor. I wouldn't use in a shower floor, though, due to the concern about slipping on a wet floor.

            Answer This Question

Good morning, If you’re going for an all white backsplash, Custom Building Products’ #381 Bright White should do the trick, and we recommend unsanded grout for this product. This tile has a 1/8” grout line. Hope that helps!

              (2)

Hi Birdie, recommending a grout color is more of a personal preference. Take a look at the surrounding area of where the tile will be installed. Grab a color that will be compatible with the mosaic tile. The manufacture said to use un-sanded grout with this mosaic tile.

              Answer This Question

Good morning, For mosaic tile installation, most people would use a 3/16” trowel. However, we recommend contacting the manufacturer of the setting material for more information. Hope that helps!

                Cutting Lantern Tiles

Hi Betsy, For best results, we recommend a wet tile saw to cut these porcelain mosaic tiles. You'll get cleaner cuts and fewer chips this way. You may find that the snap-cut tile cutter works, but I would suggest testing it out on a few tile pieces before you begin a large project. Hope that helps!

Hi Marcia, I don't have any exact paint recommendations for you, but many Home Depots are able to color-match paint. Could you bring a piece of the tile to your local store and have them match the paint to your tile sample? Hope that helps!

Home Depot and Lowes have bath/kitchen paint in a bright white that matches this tile perfectly.

Would this tile be suitable for a shower surround?

                    Answer This Question

I used it as a kitchen backsplash but I think it would be great for a shower surround! There's also the smaller size lantern option. I chose the larger size mainly because of the color. The smaller lanterns are very white, these are more of an off white color.

Hi Tracey, This product would be perfect for shower wall usage. It's porcelain, which means it's durable and doesn't absorb water. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for shower floor usage, as it may get a bit slippery, but that's up to you. If you happen to want something with higher slip resistance, I've linked our same tile in a matte finish below. Hope that helps!

                        (3)

Tracey, It certainly would! Just be sure that before you use the shower, that your grout is properly sealed. Allow at least 72 hours for your grout to cure before applying the sealer, which takes about 2-3 hours to set in.

Yes, it's non porous and rated for water. Beautiful for a bathroom, look on houzz.com for examples. Also called quatrefoil, arabesque or Moroccan tile.

beautiful accent with white subway tiles
We used this as an accent tile inset in shower niches. The rest of the shower is white subway tile and we used with a light grey grout. The result is beautiful, it adds a unique detail to an otherwise neutral/white shower. The tile quality is great and it was relatively easy to install (except where we had to cut very specific pieces for corners, but that's to be expected). I would definitely recommend.

                            Absolutely STUNNING!!!!
So happy I purchased these tiles for my backsplash! I was updating my 1970s kitchen by painting the cabinets, replacing the countertop, mimicking a farmhouse sink, and then installing a backsplash. These tiles were a perfect way to add some luxury and I get endless compliments on them. We used white grout and ogee wood trim from HD's lumber department instead of tile trim. Just painted it with white cabinet paint and it looks amazing. Highly recommend!

                            Very happy with the result!
This tile is a bit hard to install, because of the lack of a straight edge for aligning cuts and because of the need to carefully check alignment of each tile as you place the sheets. (The tiles are mounted on mesh, but they can twist/shift a bit during installation, so it's important to re-align them as you go.) It cut smoothly and did not chip, especially if the tile was cut with the finished surface facing down. We used marble ogee liners for trim, since there was no matching trim available. Very happy with the overall result.

Pretty tile at a better price than tile stores
Loved the arabesque tile in the tile stores but couldn't afford it. This tile is very similar at half the price. I tilted the tile on its side. Because I used platinum grout, it made the tiles go to a soft gray - looked almost hand painted. I love, love, love this color! I ordered a gray bullnose because like most users, I couldn't find a white to match this tile. It did have a quality issue (out of the 7 boxes, 17 sheets were filled with poor tile) - plan accordingly with your estimates. It isn't hard to install but because it has many cuts, it took significantly more time. This is one of my favorite bathrooms in the house - love it!

Beautiful product, installation is not as difficult as they say!!
These tiles are just beautiful. I bought two cases for the back splash in my kitchen, about 15 sq. ft., and had a few sheets left over at the end. It still cost less than some of the alternatives that ran $10/sq.ft., and yet gave me more than I needed. Some reviews say this is really difficult to install - it's not true! You can do it yourself! We rented a wet tile saw from the Home Depot and my husband, who had never used one before, had no problem cutting the tiles. We adhered the full sheets and full individual tiles first, then separated individual pieces from the mesh and cut them to put around the edges. The result is beautiful. We haven't done the grout yet, but I think I will go with white or cream so as not to emphasize any slight variations in spacing. Be careful when applying to adjust the tiles after pressing them in to maintain even spacing.

I love this tile. it was defiantly a little more time consuming to install rather than a normal square or rectangle tile but well worth it. i almost went with subway tile but them found this online and was sold it is a great value and gives your home a splash of simple elegance! only other con would be that there are no really good edge pieces to use for this tile but we were able to use the rope tile from home depot

                              Elegant yet Simple
I liked this tile for it's shape and color. I wanted a backsplash that didn't compete with my swirly granite but made a statement too. Picking white (my wall cabinets are white also) helped with the noncompeting and picking this elegant shape helped to still give the backsplash character and interest. I love it! My husband nor I installed it but we had a professional do it. He did say it was a little more complicated than he thought it would be because of the shape but he did an excellent job (just think it was more time consuming than he thought). It came packaged VERY safely and none of them were broke.
