Could you do a German smear on this tile ? How textured is it.?

Asked by Mom23 May 25, 2021

Answer

Hi! Although we can’t guarantee the longevity of any modification to our Rambla Arena, this technique is possible. This has slight relief that echoes the feel of real stone, giving this product a textured surface. We recommend you purchase a sample to determine if the surface suits your design preferences. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

Hi! Yes, our Rambla Grafito is suitable for shower floor installations as it is slip-resistant and has a glazed finish that will not absorb water. If you have any further questions please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

Hi! Our Rambla Mica has a COF rating of .5 meaning it is marginally skid-resistant. It also has slight relief that echoes the feel of real stone which gives this product a textured surface and further assists with skid-resistance. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

Can this product be put over paneling without a backer board

Asked by Janice January 26, 2021
2
Answers

I wouldn’t. The tile is 16x24, and very heavy, so putting it over paneling is not a good idea. It will fall..... you need backer board for proper installation. If you were to put mortar on the paneling it will fall in no time and you’ll have cracked tiles everywhere. Backer board should be hung properly to studs....I will be posting pictures when my remodel is complete. It truly is a stunning tile, looks like real stone.

Are there corners for this tile? Putting it on a kitchen island.

Asked by Janice January 26, 2021

Answers

THERE ARE NO corners. It's very difficult to work it up to an edge or a wall.

Is this difficult to install as a DYI? Is it difficult to cut around power outlets?

Asked by JULIE January 16, 2021

Answers

It's not any more difficult to install yourself. The big difference is in the grouting. The irregular lines and texture of the tile just mean you have to pay a little more attention

Beautiful, but it’s going to cost way more than you expected. The edges are beautiful and part of the reason I like them, however most of them have to be cut off for the installation. Put a gloss over the top which makes them easy to clean and not so absorbent. I have it in the kitchen. Because the tiles are so matte, the gloss doesn’t make them shiny, maybe eggshell at best. The color makes it never really look dirty so I love that.

Response from MerolaTile Customer CareSep 16, 2020
Hi! We’re glad you loved the look of our Rambla Grafito and are sorry to hear about your difficulties with its installation. The irregular edges give your installation a more natural appearance, but this product installs the same way as any other porcelain tile. We also want to clarify for you and future customers that using a sealer is not required as this product has a glazed finish that is rather easy to clean and maintain. We appreciate your feedback!

We remodeled our small bathroom in the bedroom by taking out the tub and putting in a walk in shower. We used this for the shower walls and halfway up one wall adjoining the shower. It is absolutely beautiful and the compliments don't stop. It took 10 boxes for the shower area. Every penny was well worth it for a rustic unique bathroom.

Nice texture and color but not enough variation between tiles to hide the repeat pattern. We selected these tiles to tile a hearth as part of a remodel were doing to our fireplace. We really liked the stone effect and thought they would complement the Yakima river rock we had selected for the main chimney. The tiles have a nicely textured finish with a variety of colors and are made of porcelain which makes them easy to cut and set. At 16” wide and 24” long, you don’t need too many in order to tile a large area (our hearth is approx. 22” deep and 78” wide). Every tile is the stamped with the same pattern and this is quite obvious since there is a consistently brown colored stone in the same place on each tile so we ended up not using them to tile our hearth.

We had been searching and pondering bathroom wall & shower area options for our new bathroom, knowing we wanted to do most of the walls in something looking very natural against the portions of log wall (log cabin) which would be visible in the bathroom. We wanted the appearance of natural stone but not the true weight and easier cleaning/sanitizing option in years to come. Then we found this. When stacking a few together vertically on the wall we fell in love with it as the perfect option. There are several grout color options to chose from which make a huge difference for visibility of seam lines or not. I always want it to look like real stone rather than tile so we chose a color we felt closely matched the tiles existing colors best. Then we found (in same manufacturer line) a different pattern tile we liked for floor in contrast. Install was typical of tile and grout; however, this tile comes as large rectangular pieces and quite heavy per piece. Care needs to be taken during install due to size and weight as it is definitely more difficult than conventional smaller sized tiles.

I had my doubts, until I put together the test layout. Doubt vaporized! When I looked at these tiles, I wasn't so sure the stone-like look the manufacturer was going for was going to work. Then I laid out the box in place, which is a concrete pad leading to our water heater/storage room. When I stepped back, I saw how fantastic the tiles look in natural sunlight. This is a real winner in my book. The box came stamped "ecoceramic," so I researched that a little further. It turns out that these tiles are produced in a sustainable manner. Adding that to the fact that tiles will look as good twenty years after they were installed as they did the day they went in, this option is an unbeatable choice for many uses. The tiles are rated for indoor or outdoor use, so they will definitely survive high-use areas inside the home. Despite their durability, they are surprisingly thin, which makes them easier to handle during layout and installation. The grout lines on these are meant to disappear, so the look of stone will not be impacted by grouting. The colors range from brown to buff and tan, natural shades that will hold up well to having clay and other soil tracked across them. The long edges always fit together no matter which way you place each tile, so the final look will have a lot of variation, just like a natural stone wall or floor. I can see this being used over and around a fireplace for a spectacular look. A backsplash or floor would also be nice, but the tiles do have a surface that is not flat, so cleaning them might be difficult if installed for a floor or other high-dirt area inside. I've attached two pictures at the doorway. We're installing these in the back, and will cut the outer borders straight so we can add a fancier looking tile around the edges. Because it looks so great, we're thinking about doing the front porch with these. We haven't done tile on walking surfaces outside because we're concerned about slipping, but the surfaces of these tiles eliminate that concern. A great pick for looks, durability, value, and safety. A true winner!
