Hi! We would not recommend installing this product over pre-existing vinyl floor. The main issue is that the integrity of your second installation would depend on the previous installation. If any issues arise with the original installation, this will subsequently damage the new installation. Hi Nono, Unfortunately, we do not offer our Traffic Hex Dark in a smaller size. We offer a mosaic that has a similar look and feel to it in a smaller format that might work for your installation, our Metro Super Hex Matte Black https://thd.co/2Crgf5L. Please be aware that Metro has a slightly lower PEI rating than Traffic and is not as thick. In regards to C.O.F. (Coefficient of Friction) ratings, both of these tiles have a rating of 0.6 and 0.79. When the C.O.F. rating is higher, it means that it’s more slip resistant. Receiving this C.O.F. rating also makes these tiles compliant with the ADA Guidelines! If you would like to determine if either of these tiles are right for you, we offer samples! Please be aware that samples come adhered to 6”x6” sample cards which offer a color and texture sample, not a look at the whole pattern. Hi WellResearchedDIYer, The PEI rating is a universal scale set by the Porcelain Enamel Institute in regards to the surface abrasion resistance of tile. Darker colored tiles generally have a lower PEI rating than lighter colored tiles as they will begin to show wear quicker than lighter colored tiles. It’s not that darker colored tiles are more susceptible to wear, it’s just that the wear on a darker colored tile is more easily seen when compared to a lighter colored tile. The way I like to think of it is looking at a black car versus a white car. Any imperfections on a black car is more easily noticed when you compare the same imperfections on a white car. This tile has a glazed finish, which will help prevent contaminants from staining the tile if cleaned up in a reasonable amount of time. Routine maintenance can also help prolong the life of your tile. If you would like, you could choose to seal the tile as an added layer of protection. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials, and their Aqua Mix Penetrating Sealer http://thd.co/1TFzOUL is a great option for this item. Be sure to follow all directions on the packaging for the best results. We recommend testing the sealer on scrap prior to sealing the whole installation, as it could alter the appearance of the tile. Sealing the tile before grouting can help prevent the grout from staining, but it is still very important to clean the wet grout as you go for the best results. I don't think the manufacturer recommended a grout color but I chose a medium gray and it looks awesome.
