Answer This Question
A:Â Hello Reader123,
The MM-SL2000B mounting pad (model # SGMP) has four mounting points on the base, the mounting points are .5 inches in diameter. We recommend you use steel concrete wedge anchors. The length of the anchors you would use depend on the thickness of the concrete at the installation site. Do it yourself experience. The mounting pad is made to sit on top of a level concrete pad with anchor bolts. (anchor bolts not supplied) The pad needs to be substantial enough to handle the anchor bolts as well as to be a good solid foundation. The gate opener has legs supplied that you will attach to the opener which will fit inside the mounting pad legs. In my situation the predrilled holes on the opener legs did not line up with the predrilled holes in the mounting pad legs. Consequently, drilled new holes through the legs the same size as the bolts so as to be a tight fit. However, for stabilization, did need to add a couple of other bolts through the mounting pad legs and opener legs - front to back. Otherwise, with only side to side bolts, the gate opener could rock back and forth and possibly side to side and get out alignment with the chain.
In my opinion, the mounting pad is worth having for the installation because it is much easier to dry fit and situate the mounting pad and opener in the best position so as to get the gate chain in alignment.
When I ordered the mounting pad, it was out of stock at some locations and I wondered if it was being discontinued.

The mounting post helps out tremendously when there is an existing cement base. Very strong and sturdy. Only problem as stated in a previous post is you have to drill new holes into your gate posts because the holes don’t match up.
