I tried to make my own jig with just wood and it did not work that good. I bought this jig and it works a lot better. It is hard to hold the jig on the edge of wood, but most of my edge drilling comes out on center. Have to take your time to get the jig on square and then hold it there firmly. Then try your best to put the drill straight in the self centering insert. Start the drill up and try your best to go straight down thru the insert and generally it comes out good. When gluing edge to edge, if I notice one hole off center, I usually just forget about that one hole and drill another hole about an inch away and try hard to get that one on center. Or make the hole that is not centered oversize, trying to move it closer to center. Test fit before gluing.

This tool is easy to use and I was having great success doweling joints for a furniture project. Unfortunately, the brass guide bushings are set into a plastic body and before I had even exhausted the supply of 3/8" dowel pegs that came with the kit, the bushing separated from the plastic putting an end to setting any 3/8" pegs. If you don't intend to use this for setting more than the 16 - 24 pegs of any given size that come in the kit, you are probably fine, but in my experience, the materials, specifically, the plastic, just can't take more use than that.

Works great! I used this to assemble a frame for shelving to go behind a full-length mirror and it worked well even though my cuts were not exactly square. My husband needs a better cutting tool for cabinet work than his circular saw (see how it's his fault), but the jig still worked to get the holes square in the end of the board. I had a little trouble lining them up exactly on the second board but I got better with practice and better clamping to avoid movement. Consider that I'm a 75 yr-old woman and still found this easy and fun to use. Photos are of the top of the frame and you can see a small gap at the corner where the cut was off. They are connected well, though, and the glue included in the kit helps hold it securely. Very pleased with my first effort at peg joining. The shelves are placed on pins with holes made by the Kreg Shelf Pin Jig and the frame and shelves are all perfectly level.

There is a bit of a learning curve to using it for the various sizes and positions. It worked well for what I was using it for which was placing a top on a nightstand. For the price, I would recommend this tool to add to your arsenal.

Great design concept and included lots stuff in the pack. It self centers but could not line up the holes adequately. Also, for edge joins, needs a mechanism to ensure the holes drilled 90deg from edge surface. I tried very hard to edge-join two 10” boards into one panel. Got 1/32” unflattness disappointed.

The price is right! but very hard to get precise alignment, since there is no clamping the drill always wiggle a little bit and compromised my project. I do not recommend!

It is certainly a lot of stuff for the buck. It is also very versatile and can be applied in many situations. The problem is of course that it has no clamping option and there is only this much accuracy you can achieve by holding it by hand. Thus you have to go to all kinds of tricks to clamp it and I think this could have been somehow accommodated in design instead of the useless handle. Having said that, I am in final stages of making a nightstand from scratch (from 3 8 foot long boards) complete with a drawer. The only screws in there are the ones holding drawer rails. All I had to do is to buy another $2 pack of 3/8 dowels in addition to what was in the kit. Happy doweling !

This product is excellent for what it is designed for. Normally when you make furniture you tend to make your own jigs to give you the proper alignment of your choice for each piece, however with this device, if you need something connected at a corner or connected side by side for instance to make a quick table top from 2" by X type boards, you don't want to spend the time making a jig. This is the tool for you. It is excellent to keep around for both the small project guy to the pro. I am more of an in-between, I am a certified Electrician, started in construction at the age of 16 (currently as I am writing this, I'm 37) with making custom kitchens and doing home renovations to put me through school for the Information Technology field. I haven't built a piece of furniture in about 9 years and I want you, the reader to understand just how easy this tool is to use. Notes about my pictures: I used this tool to make a 11 1/2 foot wall desk top for 3 computers and I placed dowels every 8 inches to extra strength. I also used this tool for the cabinets for extra strength since the wood will be sitting on top and I have children.
