Questions & Answers

What does this do to weeds?

We have a lot of patchy grass/weeds in the back yard because the previous owner had dogs that made bare spots in the grass - perfect places for weeds! Will this product make the weeds grow stronger as well as grass?
Asked by: 2sweet4most
Spot treat the weeds if they are in patches as you say and broadcast spread the milorganite to feed the rest of the lawn. Over time the healthy grass will fill in those patches once occupied by the weeds.

I have heard that deer will not bother a garden when milorganite fertilizer is used, Any feedback on that?

Asked by: Eddie
My sister utilized this product up in CT. She as a lot of deer in her area, she said that the deer seemed to avoid her yard. Others that I have known say the same thing The manufacturer has a web site worth visiting, they do not advertise it as deer dterent because it not the primary use of the product.

I think I may have over applied as my grass appears to have burnt, is there a way to undo this?

Asked by: shoeless
Milorganite will not burn your lawn. I had a spreader malfunction - ok I dumped the spreader over - and had half a bag in a big pile in one spot. I thinned it out as best as I could. Didn't burn, but that spot certainly did outgrow the rest.

Can I double up on using Milarganite will burn the grass if used to much. My lawn is very alkkaLINE

Asked by: rocky
I am a lawn nut. I have used mega doses up to 10x bag rate on my lawn with no ill affects. I have Bermuda for my lawn and it just burped and wanted some more. The only reason why I haven't exceeded this amount is because I would possibly hurt the lawn by smothering it due to the sheer volume of Milorganite that was spread. With as much as I have used I have never had any issues with burning the lawn due to excessive nitrogen. I should also tell you I was feeding the lawn straight 46-0-0 nitrogen weekly. I have had some issues with that high of nitrogen levels. Those issues are keeping it cut. I literally would have to cut twice daily!!!

I tried to grow grass in my backyard for 2 years now here in Huntington Beach, CA. The backyard is on the north side of our home so it lacks a lot of bright sunlight, which, of course, has been part of the problem. I watched youtube.com, The Lawn Care Nut, and he said he used Milorganite and Restore fertilizers for his own yard. I have not used Restore (yet) but now I AM CERTAIN I will never use anything but Milorganite. I am so, so pleased with the results of my yard just 3 months later! Just look deep green color and look at the strong, healthy growth. It really does work!! Can one ask for anything more???

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe and provides a vibrant green color. Put this down on my st.augustine lawn after watching the lawn care nut on YouTube and I've had good results. Seeing how it's a slow realease organic fertilizer, it took about 3 weeks to show noiticable greening. Since it doesn't have much nitrogen (unlike other synthetic fertilizers) it doesn't encourage much growth but this is what makes it safe to apply and it's the iron that causes the lawn to turn darker green. Perfectly safe to apply in the heat of the summer. Mow often, high, and don't bag your clippings!

My lawn is dark green and growing like it was spring, in spite of having low ph and some rust in areas prior to my first application. I like the fact that I don’t have to post warnings on the lawn to all of my neighbors that walk their pets. Btw the rust is gone a week after application.

Been using Scotts products and TruGreen lawn service on a newly sodded lawn. Using them I would get a quick green but then the lawn would slowly turn yellow or brown. Some spots so bad that I thought I would have to start over. I watered the lawn like crazy with little results. A lady working in the lawn department recommended Milorganite. So I said what the heck I'll try it and I'm glad I did. Within a week and a good rain that came through the lawn greened up nicely and the brown and yellow areas came back in once again. Plan to cancel the TruGreen services and go back to doing it myself. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
