Questions & Answers

What does this do to weeds?

We have a lot of patchy grass/weeds in the back yard because the previous owner had dogs that made bare spots in the grass - perfect places for weeds! Will this product make the weeds grow stronger as well as grass?

I think I may have over applied as my grass appears to have burnt, is there a way to undo this?

Asked by: shoeless
This will absolutely not burn your grass. If anything it helps, I had the worse lawn from a wanna be landscaper around. Scalped it to one inch, I over seeded and applied this one time every two weeks. My lawn looks like a golf course now. You can put this everyplace, plant, bushes etc. This will not harm.

I have heard that deer will not bother a garden when milorganite fertilizer is used, Any feedback on that?

Asked by: Eddie
My sister utilized this product up in CT. She as a lot of deer in her area, she said that the deer seemed to avoid her yard. Others that I have known say the same thing The manufacturer has a web site worth visiting, they do not advertise it as deer dterent because it not the primary use of the product.

36 lb. Slow-Release Nitrogen Fertilizer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1349.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is one of the best fertilizer on the market Hello everyone, I been doing garding for 17 years now. I started out using Scotts, I was not getting the results I wanted and the grass kept turning yellow. My Dad was using Milorganite. His yard was always pretty and green. So what did I do, I turned to Milorganite, and boy was I happy. The grass turned a pretty dark green. My neighbors all ways say you making us look bad. What I tell them is you yard could look like this too, If you put in the time and effort, that's what I do. My neighbors have different lawn services, Scott's, MRW and Tru Green. They always ask me how you get your yard so green. The answer Milorganite good grass seeds and aerate in the fall. I do it myself and get better results than a lawn service. Note this fertilizer works when the temperature is warm. Look at my pictures and tell me what you think. 17 years ago, I did not know anything about lawns, now I know just about everything, If you need help with your lawn., I can answer any questions you may have .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I suffered severe damage in my lawn from a bad drought. Hired a lawn service to help. They apparently kept burning my yard with fertilizer. After firing them, i decided to try myself. I honestly began to think my sod was laid over a large buried boulder. No matter how much i watered it just wouldnt hold up. And bermudagrass is drought tolerant. Then i found this product! The picture below is my result after the first time i used it. Granted we got good rain also. But during the heat and dry of summer. It maintained this look! Hope this helps.

I've applied this just before mother nature threw extended hot, dry spells at us and I've never had a problem with the lawn burning the way that I have with chemical fertilizers. It also seems to promote more long-term greening and growth instead of the immediate jump that you get from chemical fertilizers. I'm not a sandal wearing hippy. I do use some Scott's products as well. That being said, if I can find organic solutions that do as well as the chemical products, I'm in. It does get a little ripe if it's stored in an enclosed area, but it's poo so what would you expect? My wife no longer allows me to keep it in the garage, so I have to pack it into my little backyard shed which gets extremely hot in the summer. It can get a little intoxicating when the doors are first opened in the afternoon sun. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Recycled poop from the Dairy State and the City of Milwaukee (Beer Capital) is great! I use it regularly. Greens up my lawn and doesn't add large amounts of nitrogen. The use of iron gives your grass the need nutrients to green it up. With it being a natural product, it will not burn your lawn if you add too much, so you don't have to be scared to "Put It Down"! Three or four times a year is my routine (a week before each holiday: Memorial Day, The 4th, Labor Day, and a early spring or late fall feeding).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Safe, works. I bought a house and lawn was quite a disaster. Previouse owner did nothing for the last 5 years+ due to health issues. So fertilizer, re-seeding, aeration were long overdue. I bought this product and did not regret it. It comes with black pellets with some "soil-like" material included. It might not have as much nitrogen/phosphorus in it as some straight forward salts fertilizers, but there is one huge advantage for me: Overapplying (such as if you spill a small pile on the grass, or some leaked out as you filling your spreader) does not burn your grass like "traditional" fertilizers do. If you happened to apply to much all it does is that you grass would grow extra fast in that spot and be richer green. I do see a difference in my lawn appearance (greener greens, more grass) after applying this fertilizer for 2 years, fall and spring. Note that it does not have any weed killer in it, so for a while I was manually picking plantains and dendilions. Anyways, good product, works for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very special ingredient to make your lawn awesome! No fertilizer has ever given my lawn the glow that Milorganite has even though it is only 5% nitrogen. One of the benefits is the 4% water soluble iron that's in Milorganite. Another benefit is that it feeds the earthworms and beneficial soil microbes. In my opinion it does this better and improves the soil more than other organic sources because it is made from bio solids. I love Milorganite and will continue to use it. It is pricier here in Connecticut because it is made in Milwaukee which isn't close. Cities and towns close to Milwaukee do pay less for it or get it on sale more often. Still, I've yet to find a substitute for Milwaukee. It can also be used as starter fertilizer for new lawns. It feeds the new grass and helps it spread. Here is a photo of a Kentucky Bluegrass lawn I seeded only 50 days ago. I fed it twice with Milorganite and the lawn is establishing faster than any lawn renovation I've done in the past!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is All You'll Ever Want Again! My lawn was always patchy in spots, difficult to grow at times, never rich green. I have been thru every fertilizer and weed and feed there is, to the same results of struggling light green grass and patches. I put down a basic weed killer in only the areas that need it This year, and 2 applications of the milorganite, you cannot hurt your lawn with the milorganite. After a good watering with the sprinkler system, And a heavy rain, the lawn is looking beautifully only 3 weeks in! Best part is it is slow release to continue greening and fertilizing the soil, and also very economic per bag! Use it as much as you want, the only thing you'll ever have is more work to mow and less weeds as the grass pushes them out!

I have been using Milo for 3 years now and my lawn has never looked better. It along with proper mowing and watering has given me a weed free lawn and consistent compliments from my neighbors. I apply milorganite at the recommended rate 3 times a year.
